Well, to start let me give some background. When I was younger I was diagnosed with mild primary inattentive type. The last month and a half that I have spent in school has brought me into a serious rut of procrastination as usual. At a point I thought about asking my doctor for Ritalin or Adderall but considering I become extremely insecure and anxious when i drink 2 or more cups of coffee I decided that an even more powerful stimulant would make things worse. Though I was on Ritalin when I was first diagnosed it after about two years of taking Ritalin my mother took me off since it was giving no apparent benefits (why it took so long to realize this is anyone's best guess). Recently I found some St Johns Wort laying around the house and decided to give it a go. From day one of taking the St Johns Wort I have experience significant improvement in my mood, motivation energy levels etc. Take in mind also that I have only been taking it for 3 days and the effects don't usually kick in for about two weeks! My intuition tells me though that the Bio-Strath I have been taking for the previous three months or so have boosted SJW's effects, since it does contain amino acids which convert to many of the same neurotransmitters that SJW re inhibits. Hopefully this post will be of use for those who find stimulants more detrimental than useful.

If you have any specific questions, just post them here and I will be more than happy to awswer them.

I've heard alot about SJW, and I was wondering if you used to have problems listening and consentrating? Does SJW help with that? Did it help you?

Listening wasn't so much of a problem for me thought it did help with my concentration and motivation to get started but I would say it does help me to listen even better I would think.

SJW is a mild SSRI, it helps with depression and anxiety, not ADHD.

Actually, it is acts generally on the neurotransmitters increasing serotonin, dopamine norepinephrine in equal amounts. It also increases glutamate and GABA. So to say it is a mild SSRI is true, but only one of its many actions.

Could you explain what GABA is and its function? And what is a SSRI? Just out of curiosity. Sorry, I'm not familiar with these terms.

Could it be that you were misdiagnosed all those years ago and were actually suffering from Depression and not ADD? What testing did they do to diagnose your ADD. Without adequate testing it is very easy to label someone ADD when in fact they really have something else wrong such as depression or bi-polar.

Spacie: Well GABA is a neurotransmitter that helps with staying clam and preventing anxiety. Coffee, for example, decreases GABA which is the reason why many become anxious when drinking coffee. And a SSRI is a acronym for selective serotonin re uptake inhibitor. Simply put, they help serotonin to last longer, thus have more effect on the brain, before they are taken back up by the neurons.

Mlgable: Personally I would have to say you may be right but I'm not entirely sure yet. It could be that I have a mild case what Dr.Amen classifies as Limbic ADD which is a combination of depression and ADD (inattentive) that is usually treated with stimulating antidepressants like Wellbutrin. My main reason for saying that would be that I have fairly poor handwriting & spelling, symptoms of both mild ADD and Dep., and my father has dep. and anxiety and my mother displays a significant around of ADHD symptoms. When I was younger though, a wasp entered my left ear and I have been diagnosed by a hearing specialist when I was fairly young with a auditory processing disorder in that same ear. Since many of the symptoms overlap in ADD and auditory problems (including handwriting in many cases) perhaps ADD isn't the problem. My high school has not provided me with much information on this LD I nearly no knowledge of how it effects me. Thank you for your concerns :)
