Hi yall, did anyone here have had a total turbinectomy? Which is more advisable? Partial or total? I will be having surgery in a few more weeks but next week, I'll see the ENT and I want to be prep with questions. I have heard that a total turbinectomy is not so advisable because of the side effects like severe dry nose/mouth and the longer recovery period and more pain. When is partial or total used?

I hope to be more prepared about everything that will be going on. Sometimes I still have doubt about going for surgery... maybe I'm just afraid about the after-effects...silly me...hehe...

And during last week, I started having bad ear blocks. What could be causing it? I started to have those feelings (sore throat, bad congestion and feverish) when you get sick with a cold. Then 2 days later, I had a fever but it was gone by the next day. The ear block has been on for more than a week. It's so bad that I feel pressure in my ears and sometimes nose. Haven't been able to hear very well. I was also sneezing badly.

Now I have stopped taking the antihistamine my doctor gave to me for the mucus. At first, it seems to be helping as the mucus was lesser but then suddenly, my symptoms got even worse! I now am 24/7 congested by the mucus and the swollen turbinates. I've tried so many meds and I just wonder what will work or fail next. I also get ringing in my ears; my right ear is the worse. Does anyone have vasomotor rhinitis and have ringing in their ears? Why did it happen?

When you get really congested, your eustachian tube gets blocked, and fluid can't drain down out of your ears. The fluid causes a decreased ability to hear, as well as pressure. Take your antihistimines and that will clear up problems. :)

Thanks for the reply Midget, my ears are better now though it ain't from the antihistamines that I take. They just don't seem to work anymore on my mucus... it's a waste of time and money taking them sometimes!
