my brother is 57 has his entire rectum and mpost of his colon removed for a very large mass in the rectum that was 8 cm deep he does have a permanent colostomy my question here is why would they also have removed the prostate if he hasd no problems with that./...

Often times the prostate is the first place for spread. Especially for such a deep tumor. It may come back clean in the pathology report, but MANY surgeons believe that this should be removed as well depending on the extent of the rectal tumor.

you know that makes all the sense in the world to me i was thinking they removed it as a precautionary so thats prob right thanks so much.
