View Full Version : Medial Malleolus

Does anyone know exactly where he medial malleolus is in the ankle? I fell and had x-rays done yesterday and the doctor called today to tell me the radiology department is saying I have a fractured medial malleolus. I had surgery on my ankle for my talus and the only mark that has shown up on recent x-rays is the divet in talus from drilling during surgery. I am trying to figure out if the mark that they are saying is a fracture could actually be the divet. From looking on-line all I have found is that the medial malleolus is the inside part of the foot. I am going to see a specialist, but am trying to figure today if the mark could possibly be related to my surgery. Thanks for any help.

Your medial malleolous is the bump that you feel on the inside of the ankle. It is actually the base of your tibia (shin bone), and is stabalized to the calcaneous by the deltoid ligament. It is unlikely that a divet on your talus would be confused with a medial malleolous fracture... How old are you? The growth plate for the tibia is very close to the medial malleolous and can cause complications with this type of fracture.... Hope this helps! Good Luck!
