Anyone have experience with blood testing showing up differently than the skin tests? And does anyone know the blood test name I need to ask for to test food allergies? I think its IgE - something. My allergist refuses to even discuss blood testing, but I found a new internal medicine dr that agreed to let me have the test. But she doesn't know what the correct name is. I just know I react to foods and other things that I do not show up positive on the skin testing.

Getting the IgE levels tested will tell you if you are allergic to something, but not to what. It is just an immune system thing and if it is high that means that you have allergies. But it can't tell you what you are allergic to.

I have had blood tests results that were different than skin tests. But they were taken a year 1/2 apart. Most of the stuff overlapped except the blood test showed I was allergic to dogs, when the skin test showed nothing. And the blood test said I was sensitive to more molds than the skin test.

I would think your doctor would just have to get the lab codes from the lab he/she is using. My was just for outdoor allergens, it was called Southwest IgE or something like that. It tested for all the pollens common to the southwest. I'm sure there must be a common food one also.

I just had an IgE and RAST blood tests. Is this going to show me what foods I am allergic too?
