Has anyone had any results in dealing with 50 year-old facial skin? In particular, the area right below the cheeks, close to the bottom of the nose and next to the mouth. This area looks a bit mottled with big pores and a bit of dark discoloration. I use Retin-A for acne and tea tree oil for cleansing but this seems to be a problem area. I would have to stop using Retin A on this area for a week before using any other exfoilating producs. Would a couple of sessions of microdermabrasion help?

You may want to get a consult for the microdermabrasion. That's a technique I wouldn't particularly listen to anyone other than a licensed person.
Queen Helene's Mint Julip Mask has helped my pores and acne. I had some discoloration on my upper lip from a burn and aromaleigh's Free Radical Serum helped lighten it. I've only used it 1 1/2 days and it's all but gone. Don't know what your discoloration is from. If it is a skin condition, you may have to see a doctor.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Adele....there is a product by Estee Lauder called Idealist. There is an exfoliater and the lotion you apply afterwards. The exfoliater is new. I haven't tried it yet but I tested it at the counter. It was phenomenal. I am already using the lotion and that feels awesome. Both products help reduce pores. If you can get to a counter ask them for samples of it and try it at home. You probably won't see results right away w/samples but you can see how your skin will feel afterwards. Also...Estee Lauder guarantees their products if they do not work for you or if you have any problems with it. Both the exfoliater and the lotion sell for $45 each.-Roni

Hey Roni, how long have you been using Idealist for? Ive been wanting to use this myself, it claims it does the same job as Retin-A but without any of the nasty redness and irritation. Have you noticed really good, exceptional results? Or is it just another, regular moisturiser?

Crazy cat....I have been using it for almost a year now. I have noticed my pores aren't as big as they used to be but they are still there. My skin feels so soft too. I was using Fruition and changed to this stuff. Fruition worked well too but didn't leave my skin feeling so smooth. I want to buy the exfoliater now but I have to wait because I spent too much money at the Pottery Barn for my daughters' bedroom stuff. I have had the opportunity to try different treatment lines because I worked in the industry and I have to say I am really impressed with Idealist. Estee Lauder did well with this one.-Roni

Ok, that sounds good, thanks. I'm looking to start using a firming cream, does Idealist firm skin? Is there another cream you can recommend me instead? Do i even need to use a firming cream? i'm 31 and i've been wondering for a while if i should use one or should i just stick with the jojoba oil. I'm not too sure whether those firming creams really make a difference or not, maybe i'm better off sticking to what i'm doing now. Jojoba at night, oh and i do use a sunscreen during the day as i have very fair skin, though i dont like using it because it makes you look quite pale.

Crazy....as of right now the most raved firming moisturizer out there is one by Avon called Anew. There are different types of creams to fit your needs. It has been giving Estee Lauder and all the other top lines some competition. I had to try it to make sure it was any good. I have tried the Anew Clinical line and wrinkle corrector. I am 30 and I have lived in the nightclubs as I was younger and I have two toddlers now. Not to mention my dear husband is a police officer so the stress in life is really there. I feel like I have aged in the past 4 1/2 yrs greatly. I have to say I am very impressed with this product. I am ordering 2 jars this week as soon as I can get a hold of the rep. I will still use my Idealist before I apply this. Nobody has been able to tell me if this is a moisturizer/treatment product or just treatment alone. Some of these reps do not have very good product knowledge. I am currently using a lightweight moisturizer over it. My skin is normal combination and it doesn't leave my skin oily. The Anew Clinical runs about $32 a jar. My skin is looking more toned and even. I have noticed my neck looks pretty firm. I really concentrated on that area. I was skeptical to try using Avon products because they just didn't seem to catch my eye...but I have heard a lot of good things about this product. I am not sure about their eye treatment line. All of the other lines' eye treatment products never really worked or at least not on me. Call an Avon rep and see if they can give you a sample of the Anew Clinical and try it out and see how it works for you. My rep gave me 4 sample jars so I was able to use it for a month and I was able to tell the difference. With one sample I think the only thing you will notice is your skin will start feeling smoother even when you're not wearing it. I will try to find out a litlle more about this product. I will probably have to call someone who is charge of the area. Hope this helps a little.-Roni

Hey, i made a mistake. I was thinking of Estee Lauders PERFECTIONIST serum. Has anyone tried this? That's the one that claims in one month does the job of 24 weeks of Retin-A. Does anyone use this cream?

Crazy....I haven't tried the Perfectionist Sereum but I have heard good things about it from the girls at the counter. If I try it I will let you know how it works for me.-Roni

Thing is i am just so overwhelmed by all the creams out there, it's like i'm paralized and i cant decide what to buy. If i do buy something i want it to do something exceptional (but i have my doubts that any cream will really make a difference), otherwise i'm better off sticking to my jojoba oil!

Lorie, where do you find aromaleigh Free Radical Serum? Does it get rid of brown spots from the sun? I've tried everything to get rid of this one on my cheek. Thanks, M.J.

Bump.....I'd like to know that also. I live in Florida and have always been a sun worshipper.
Also, for you people who are thinking of using retin-a or renova.....it causes hair growth on your face. You don't hear this too often because they don't want you to know that part, but do some research and you'll find this to be true. I used it for a year and a half and now have a major overgrowth of facial hair to deal with and believe me, I'm not the only one out there. Be careful!

Hello all. I'm 48, a California native and ex sun worshipper. Not a pretty picture, until I discovered Clarins. Unbelievable. It actually does what it claims to do! My skin has done a 360. I tried everything, including IPL (Intense Pulsing Light) treatments, micro-dermabrasion, every product out there and finally found Clarins. I use the entire extra-firming line (I buy it on ebay for 1/2 the price of dept. stores!). But, and I must make this a huge BUT, I also take supplements that are skin specific. Flax, Alpha Lipoic Acid, DMAE, all of the antioxidants (free radical fighters!) and once a week I massage in a combination of pure Vit. C oil, Vit. E oil and Emu oil and leave it on overnight. I do facial exercises daily along with a 2 minute facial massage technigue morning and night. Seems like a lot of work, it really isn't and the payoff has been huge! I hope some of this has helped!
