my bf gets occasional fever blister which i know are the type 1 herpes. i have been with him for over 8 years and have never gotten any blisters on my mouth. when he does have one we usually don't kiss, but he doesn't get them often, maybe twice a year or so. anyways yesterday i got my first blister on my bottom lip and it's weird because he hasn't gotten one recently.(he does not have genital herpes and i did not perform oral sex either) i read somewhere these can transfer even when there is not an active blister, is this true? i also read that type 1 herpes can transfer to the genitals during oral sex, is this only when there is an active blister?

Its all horribly true, you can spread herpes with or without visible lesions. Thats probably why 80% of us (or more) have herpes in some form or another. And yes, you can spread hsv1 to the genitals. In fact, people in parts of europe have more hsv1 on the genitals than hsv2.
