Like I said in an earlier post, my doctor switched me from paxil to lexapro. I was feeling really panicky this morning, so I took .50 mg of xanax. Apparently it did NOT work, because during class, I started having a hard time breathing and my heart was beating really fast. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor. :nono: Some people may say it's related to the anemia and what not, but I'm pretty sure it was a panic attack. :(

Maybe you need to up the dosage of the Xanax.
I take .75 mg for my panic attacks, and that number seems to work for me. If I take less, it does nothing, and if I take more, I fall asleep.

to twiz,

I dont know what caused it but passing out from anxiety is rare, make sure you dont breathe quickly and shallowly as this can make you pass out from hyperventilation

deep slow breathing is best for anxious people

for most, .5 of xanax is only a small dose

I went to my dr and she switched me back to paxil.. I'm so happy! I have passed out dozens of times because of panic attacks... my doctor said it is because the body just shuts itself down and it's almost like it resets itself. My doctor told me that I was on the "wimpy" dose of xanax.... as long as it works and isn't addictive, I don't care :)

I used to find that when I started feeling like that, if I didnt stand up and pace or something, then I would pass out. It can be hard in certain situations if youre trying to cover it up, but alternating b/t sitting and standing always helped me to keep off the floor, hehe.

this passing out should be investigated to see whats causing it, I doubt its from the panic attacks
ive only heard of 1 other who said he fainted from panic attacks

I've had it confirmed by about ten doctors (I've had this problem for years.. it just got under control while on paxil) that the passing out is from panic attacks, because a lot of times when you have a panic attack, you hyperventalate, causing too much oxygen to get into your body and your pH goes up. The way that the body neutralizes this is by passing out, it is almost like hitting the reset button on an electronic device. With the passing out, breathing goes to normal. Once I pass out, I feel a lot better and my doctor who works in the er and private practice has said that this is quite a common response to a panic attack, and in some ways it is good---as long as injury does not result from the fainting.

I have had fainting spells due to anxiety (not panic attacks, but from daily anxiety). Thankfully I haven't had one in awhile, but I experience lightheadedness on a daily basis. I now know to lay down immediately when my lightheadedness gets severe to prevent myself from passing out. I have seen numerous Dr.'s including a Cardiologist and Neurologist to rule out other causes. My Cardio did say it was rare for anxiety to cause syncopy, but it is possible.
