ok here's my situation....

i had severe tightness of chest about 2 months ago that sent me into the ER. both the doctors and I thought it should be asthma since i have a history of asthma in the past. however, i realized that basically none of the medications for asthma helped with my condition at all. then i realized that my peak flow reading is pretty average (only a little bit below) a normal person. so why still the tightness in chest?

i then told my doctor that after each meal, i would feel like throwing up. kind of like havin the food comin bak up but i'm not really vomiting, just the feeling. and i'd belch (burp) for like the entire day....and when i have that, i have a harder time breathing. my doctor thinks that i might have some kind of stomach disorder so put me on prilosec 20 mg a day. ok, magically 95% of all my relux problems went away, however, i'm still experiencing tightness in chest for some odd reason. sometimes i'd feel a tingling feeling in the lung or some pain in the ribs and generally the bones around teh chest....what the hell is this? oh and i've noticed that after i take some 'tums' my symptoms clear up for a slight moment, nothing too exciting. so can anyone tell me what this is??

I'm going through the same exact thing right now. I would suspect that as a result of your acid reflux, you may have some sort of ulceration to your esophogus. If the prilosec is doing it's job, your esophogus will start to heal.

Sounds like you have a hiatal hernia, which impairs swallowing for some people and interferes with digestion.A hiatal hernia is when the stomach is pushed up and causes a kink in the esophagus. This causes pain, discomfort, gas, nausea and many other symptoms.Antacids will only help the symptoms,(temporarily). To fix the problem you need to find a natural health care person or a Chiropractor who knows how to pull the stomach back down where it belongs. It is a simple procedure and fixes the problem. If you were in my area I would work with you. There are herbs such as slippery elm or aloe vera juice which will soothe and help with digestion. Wish you well.

well couple days ago i saw a doctor and he believes that the tightness of chest that i have is due to anxiety/stress. which i partially agreed on and after trying some stress relief activities it actualy did help. so i'm kind of convinced now that stress is causing the chest tightness. however, i'm not sure about my reflux. good thing is i don't have reflux anymore thanks for 20mg of prilosec otc every morning. i'm goin to a see a GI doctor on nov. 8 about this. but my doctor don't think i have hiatal hernia because i don't have a problem swallowing. and the lump in my throat goes away wen i take prilosec. so i think he ruled that out and he believes i might just have a lose sphincter. waht do you guys think?

Hello,
Have you ever heard of a hiatal hernia? You can have all the symptoms you mention and more. A hiatal hernia occurs when the stomach gets pushed up because of stress, wrong food combinations, gas. and other reasons. It causes a kink in the esophagus, and causes much discomfort includeng referred pain to the shoulder, arm, and more. The meds can help wiyh the acid reflux but until the stomach is pulled back down where it belongs you will not fix the problem and get rid of the symptoms you describe. It is a simple procedure to move it down, for someone trained in natural health methods. Some people get relief by using a hot water bottle, because heat relaxes and in some clients, the stomach will move down by itself. Some herbs that are "miracles" for this problem are slippery elm, and aloe vera juice. If you have never used natural health methods I'm sure you are probably wondering what tree I fell out of! I have used and taught these methods for over 20 years with great success. I hope you might be open minded enough to give it a try. What do you have to lose, except symptoms and a lot of anxiety.
Respectfully,

Hello Bub,

I was just recently diagnosed with a hiatal hernia the week before Thanksgiving. I had the endoscopy and they saw it along with gastritis. The symptoms came on strong, heartburn, burping ect. I have been online researching this to familiarize myself on what options are out there. I am extremely interested in what you had to say about the natural remedies, herbs and chiropractic massage to pull the hernia down. I live in Lake Mary, Fl. which is a little north of Orlando and would like any information on finding someone specialized in this. Are all chiropractors trained in this, or should I just ask them? Also, you mention slippery elm, and aloe vera juice for the symptons. How often should it be taken in a day and do you make a tea out of it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I have a hiatal hernia and GERD, I have been told I should have the Nissen surgery but don't want to have it. Also, if I take Previcid each morning and that totally helps the refux. Besides not wanting the surgery, I don't want to take meds for the rest of my life. Suggestions?

To 101Bub Newbie-

I would love to know if your reflux is gone from the manual adjustment of your hiatal hernia by a chiropractor! I have a med-sized slidiing hiatal hernia (and sores in my esophagus) and would love to be able to prevent an occurrence of all the pain I've suffered the last 5 months. I'm on Prevacid to prevent acid production to heal the sores but this is a temporary fix. Are there chiropractors that do this in NYC or Astoria, NY??
Thanks!

I have acid reflux, gerd, whatever it may be called and I am curious in some natural ways to get rid of this. I read about Granny Smith apples and they help sometimes, but not all of the time. The dr. prescribed me Nexium, but like I said, I would like something natural.
My symptoms are burning of the chest, tightening of the chest, shortness of breath and serious belching.

Thank you.

I threw away all my PPI and H2 pills about two months ago. They were making me feel worse. I started using apple cider vinager. I added two tbs of apple cider to 6 oz of water. You get used to the taste. It has worked for me. The first week, I guess I was drinking about a glass a day. Now have not had any of the symptoms and back to eating pretty much everything. If I do get that tight feeling in the chest, I drink water with apple cider vinager. You can try it and if after a week, it does not give you relief, then I would discontinue and go back to the pills.
