I am 19 years old and just about 6 months ago I developed floaters in both eyes. My vision has always been great and have never had any eye problems. I went to the eye doctor and a reitna specialist after they developed and the conclusion was my eyes looked great and were perfectly healthy. My question is has anyone else experinced floaters at a young age like me with no eye problems? One thing I can say was that that I had a lot of stress and anxiety for quite a few months before they developed, I dunno if that has any bearing on the situation but I thought that I would just throw that out there. Anyone with a similar situation to mine?

Hey there,
I, too, developed/noticed a lot of floaters during a very stressful time. I was diagnosed with anxiety during this time and began taking Zoloft. Now, I began noticing the vision problems (spots in vision, floaters, afterimages) BEFORE taking Zoloft, so it was not the cause of them. I, too, was determined to be in perfect health by two optometrists and one opthamologist. Are you at all myopic? They say myopic eyes will develop more floaters than far-sighted eyes. It may just be one of those things due to aging (even though you are only 19), or it may be that you just started noticing them during the anxiety. I really think that is the case for me, because all these other things came up, too with the anxiety and all those docs swear I am healthy. I have heard of others who began noticing weird visual things occuring during stress, but come out with a clean bill of health by doctors. I am feeling less stressed lately (and am no longer on Zoloft) and am waiting for my visuals to get better. They have a bit, but are still there. I try not to let them get me anxious, but that is easier said than done. I think it is true that you will eventually get used to the floaters and they won't be bothersome. At least you know your eyes are good! Just keep getting annual exams by a doctor to keep up on that. Good luck!

For your question about am I myopic. No, I have extreamly good vision. I often have people tell me how can you read that for this distance and stuff like that. vision is not a problem and my eyes are fine. The only thing I can think that would cause it is anxiety. My anxiety was prolonged over months. At first the floaters overwelmed me and I didnt even like goin outside but you get used to them. When you dont think of them you really dont even notice them.

I developed Floaters around your age to. My mother has them also. The doctor said they are normal and nothing to worry about. Though they can be entertaining when you watch them float about and look up quickly and watch them fall. <---- I do get bored sometimes. I was afraid to talk to my doctor about them since i've been blind in my right eye since birth. Glaucoma and cataracts and another Birth Defect. I'm always afraid of losing sight in my left eye. But it's nothing to worry about!
