I had the same thing, it isn't too bad. I was able to watch the whole thing on the screen, it is very similar to a Pap test but he uses a little teeny clamp thing that takes a biopsy of the abnormal cells that get sent for tests. It isn't very painful, there are no nerve endings on the cervix so you just feel pressure really, and there is a little blood but not much. I found mine when I went for my yearly and after the tests came back was booked for a Leep(or Loop) procedure to remove them all....but found out we were pregnant about 2 weeks before I was scheduled for the procedure....we cancelled it and went for a checkup at about 28 weeks, and again about 6 weeks after our daughter was born....I have had 3 followups since then and the cells are no longer there...they fell off during the pregnancy/delivery...which can sometimes happen. So I never did need to get the LEEP (or Loop) procedure. It is quite common though, I found a few friends had it as well. One of them had difficulty dialating when in labor with her first child after the LEEP procedure probably due to the scar tissue but after the Dr helped manually move dialation along she had an otherwise uneventful delivery.
