Greetings to those with fractured bones,
It's about 9 days since my ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) of my calcaneus. Yes, it's sore, so I try anything to help relieve the pain and speed up the healing. An elevated limb helps reduce the swelling and Myprodol makes the pain bearable. I use comfrey (knitbone) ointment on the foot and leg (calf muscle also badly bruised) and suck other homeopathic remedies to mend the fractures. my surgeon also informed me that I am osteoporotic so I've increased my intake of calcium/magnesium etc. My wife is very supportive and understands that less mobility means less risk of injury, so she suggested that I pee in a bucket at night instead of trying to hobble to the loo at night. A bone graft was taken from the hip and boy-oboy, it sure it hurts when I sneeze or cough! Good luck to my fellow patients. We have a phrase in South Africa "vasbyt" which means bite the bullet! It can only get better.
