Hi all. I had a question after reading so many posts pertaining to "painless" colposcopies and leeps. My mouth hung open like, "WHAT??!" I , for two yrs now, have experienced major pain during paps and the biopsies were almost unbearable! I actually cried out in pain and almost leapt off the table. I have had two children vaginally, one with a 46 hr back labor, and never have I cried out in pain like that. So what's the deal? My doc acted like it was fairly normal and probably had to do with my previous leep and scarring. But if the "cervix is free of nerve endings" and "all you will feel is pressure" than why do mine hurt so very much? When I hear people on this site would even consider having a leep on local I could not believe it! I swear, they would have to kill me first. Are you ladies just super, unbelieveable people or is there something wrong with me?

I don't know what to tell you. My pap smears have always been a bit painful (especially while I was pregnant). My exams really hurt while I was pregnant for some reason. After my pregnancy I had a repeat pap which hurt like they did before my pregnancy. After that I had the colposcopy which I wouldn't describe as painful just very uncomfortable when they froze the upper cervix. A couple months later a different doctor did my follow up pap smear and for the first time ever it was totally painless. It was a woman so I was thinking maybe women know how to do it better. It may be your doctor or hormones. I don't think anything is wrong with you!
