Anyone here had the Laser surgery done? My Dr thinks I should have this done. My eye pressure is only 17 and 21 and stays in that range except when I was using the eye drops then it was 13 and 14. I have a range of side effects with the drops. I also have an atrophied optic nerve and it hasn't changed for 3 yrs til todays test which the opthamologist said it had weakened much more since last January. I have glaucoma in the right eye and the left eye is suspect. Is he just wanting to do the laser surgery for the money or can I really benefit from it? Accordingly he states that nowadays they can catch glaucoma even before it presents major changes and when the laser surgery is performed then it can halt the progression for years by relieving the pressure, he does say it isn't 100% successful but darn near 80% do have. What do you think? I don't mind the surgery, it is minor but if it will keep me from having to use those expensive eye drops it would be nice, as I do have side effects from most that I've tried. any advice?

I had lasik surgery arrpoximately five years ago. I recently developed a cataract and was told that since I had lasik surgery, it would be more difficult to remove my cataract and restore my vision to 20-20 or my current vision. I was told that I may have to wear thick glasses after the cataract surgery.

The reason for the difficulty is because when I had lasik, my cornea was thinned and reshaped. This makes it more difficult for a restoration to 20-20 or to my current vision.

I was also told that I would need to get the records of my vision before the surgery to improve my chances of getting the best results when I have cataract surgery. My doctor told me that there is also a one in one thousand chance that I could go blind after cataract surgery.

Has anyone heard of these concerns?

:)
