What would be a good medication for anxiety that I could take before those stressful social situations. I don't want to take meds all the time, just something to calm my nerves. I have alot of anxiety/stress and dread social gatherings.... I'm just trying to come up with some solutions because it is really affecting my life.

the best is any valium type med but these can be hard to get, its reasuring to carry a few tablets with you when out, just in case you need some
a beta blocker med such as inderal can also be a help if you get blushing, sweating and racing heart, both meds go well together and take about 2o minutes to start helping

If you feel stressed due to life situations, try to sort them out without the help of medications first. But if you find your anxiety spinning out of control, it's probably best to speak to your doctor. Everyday stress is normal, constant anxiety is a disease.

ya, I do have problems w/ blushing and sweating, especially the sweating. I have dealt with this since I was young, and now that i'm married and have a child, its really becoming a burden in my life. I avoid many things in my life because I really don't feel comfortable in social type settings.
I don't even feel comfortable talking to a doctor about it. But I really think I should cause its affecting my life. I don't want to be like this, I really dislike this part of myself. I really feel hopeless about it.

I just starting taking Effexor XR and it has helped me a lot. I just want you to know that you SHOULD NOT be embarrased to tell your doctor about your anixiety!!!! It is so much more common than you know and they deal with it so much and will not think you are wierd or crazy. My doctor said he treats at least 10 people a week with anxiety. If you even just describe to your doc how you feel, he will suggest a med that is right for you. Again, do not be afraid to talk about this. Thats why the docs are there!!!!
Good LUck to you

I got mine from my regular GP, but when I went for my exam, I told my gyno that I was taking Effexor XR and he said that it was a great pill and he often prescribes it to patients. I defintely think that your gyno would give it to you.

I am so happy to finally start hearing good reports about Effexor XR----I have tried Prozac, Lexapro and Buspar and this has been the very best. I take Wellbutrin 100mg w/it. I take 150mg of Effexor XL. It is the first time I have been able to actually read abook (concentration) How much do most of you take? Tell me how it's helped you??

I've just started Effexor XR this past week. I was on Lexapro before that. I've also taken Zoloft, Paxil and some other Sri drug. I'm also on klonipins (2 mgs twice daily, or as needed). They've also tried me on xanax, trazadone, zyprexa (devil drug!), valume and some sort of drug that's like a stronger version of benadryl. Oh, I've also had to be put on Ambien to sleep through-out all of these other meds.
I feel as if I'm just a guine pig for the pharmasutical companies. But since starting the Effexor XR, I've had better consentration while reading, eaiser time falling asleep at night, easier time staying awake during the day. Although, I'm still having the sexual side affects that I had with all the meds.
I've heard that they aren't as bad with Effexor, so I'm hoping that part will go away, at least a little bit. But it makes it very difficult to fully climax.
I guess that is my only complaint about the drug.
Hopefully things work out with this one. All the other drugs I've tried have either been too much or just stopped working.
Oh yeah, you wanted to know dosages...I'm on 75.5 right now. That's what he started me on when we switched me from Lexapro to Effexor.
Hope I stay on this track. Maybe I"ll be able to walk into a store alone without my sunglasses on!
