View Full Version : CAN YOU GO WITHOUT ANY MAKE-UP

CINDERELLA
06-20-2002, 06:15 PM
I just saw an Oprah programme on Vanity, and 3 women had the challenge of going a week without ANY make-up at all, they had to go to work, parties etc. Can you imagine it? How hard is it for you not to wear any makeup at all? The least amount of make-up I wear would be eyeliner and lippy. Whats yours?

I HAVE to have foundation on. But I could live without eyeshadow and mascara.

I NEED the foundation, powder, and concealer. I really do hate wearing them, but if I don't, I look like a disaster because of my skin. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif Sometimes it's not vanity, but mere necessity.

Awww man, was it Thursday's show? I really want to see that. Anybody know if Oprah has reruns or anything?

As a mother of 3 young boys, I have found that I usually forget to put on makeup in the morning, either I forget or I have no time. I do use neutrogena tinted moisterizer and I always wear lipstick. That and sunglass and nobody can tell I don't have makeup on.

I could go without makeup, but I would miss my mascara
'cause my eyelashes are lightly colored and I look well, funny, without it. But I think I could go without it.... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/eek.gif

what a silly thing for those women to do!! i could NEVER go anywhere without makeup. i feel better when i look as good as i can....and i think it's only fair to the rest of the world that we all try to look our best! i have several friends who routinely go everywhere without makeup and i just dont' get it. i LIKE makeup! i LIKE lipstick!!! i guess that's the one thing i could never give up......when i drive my daughter to school early in the morning, if i'm not working, i always take a hit of lipstick before i leave!! i often think of how silly that habit is...but it's MY habit!!!! lol i just think of how much better everyone looks with a little um, adjusting.
men too!

I've gone for long periods without wearing any makeup and my skin actually seemed to look better afterwards. I think if one is comfortable with themself it is easier to go anywhere without makeup. Just remember, people don't really notice your face without makeup as much as you do!

Hey Ladies,

I have not wore makeup in three months. I just quit doing it. My husband says I look better w/out it. I think so too. No more make up for me.

I only wear make-up when I'm going out for a special occassion or a night out clubbing. My finace thinks I look great without it and so do I. I'm very confident and sure about myself without having to slather myself in make-up.

Take care everybody!

Interesting results, my husband says I look fine without it, it seems quite a few men are happy for their wives not to wear any. I dont think I would have caught him without it though! Does your man prefer you with or without?

My hubby doesn't notice if I have makeup on or not. I am fortunate to have pretty good skin for a 46 year old. Makeup seems to be a bother anymore, but I do wear it when we go out.

I wear a lot less makeup now than I did when I was younger (in highschool) I had a boyfriend a long time ago that used to tease me constantly about having to "put my face on" every morning, and that got to bugging me and I started thinking "am I not beautiful enough without all this crap on my face?!"
Although I still wear makeup I wear less, I don't even bother with foundation anymore, sometimes I'll just sweep on a little powder, and mascara and that's about it, except for the times when i'm going to something special, then I wear a little more.

Aw, I wish I saw that show! My makeup really depends on my mood and the time of year. Like, in the summer, when my skin is a little darker, I tend not to wear as much -- probably just undereye concealer and mascara and a little blush for daily wear... Eyeliner and shadow if I'm going out to dinner or a party or something.

But anyway, it's not too big of a deal for me to leave the house without makeup -- although it definitely was when I had acne a few years ago... That was a pain. But I have light skin and auburn hair, so my must-have items are mascara and bronzer.. no question. Otherwise my face would look like a monochromatic blob.

Good Morning,

My husband prefers me w/out it...but he does not care either way. I used to wear a lot of makeup in High School. But now, I am 31, I dont wear it at all. I personally think I look better w/out it.

I have spent all kinds of money on makeup too. I am not going to get rid of it. You never know when someone will be getting married, graduating or whatever. LOL

I only wear make up when I go out on the weekends. I throw some lotion on my face after the shower for work with some lip gloss or chapstick

It's interesting how as the older we get, the less importance make-up has in our lives. Years ago, I wouldn't be caught dead without a full face of make-up. Now, on good day, you'll find me with a little mascara, some powder, and lip gloss.

If I'm at home I usually just wear a little concealer, but if I go out somewhere I like to look my best so I wear it all. But if I was in a real hurry, I would just put a little concealer and mascara on.

I don't wear much. But I do have to wear foundation and powder. I have uneven tones in my skin. So I always put on a little foundation to even out the color. I could go without the rest.

i HAVE to wear makeup. i have acne and i feel so self concious without it. i wear foundation powder and mascara every day. even when im just sitting around the house. i wish i was one of those people that didnt need it to feel good about themselves.

surfncrzylver: I know exactly how you feel.
I HAVE to wear foundation/conceler/powder every single day, even if im just sitting around the house, because id hate for somebody to drop by and to see my skin without it on, as i have acne, well mostly red blotchy scars.
I Havnt really been a day without it for about 3 years, and yes i know thats bad for my skin
but what can you do about it huh.

I cant live without make up!!I love it! I have been late to school numerous times just cus i have to put it on. Its like an addiction. I just think i look a lot better with it on. Actually most ppl I know look better with makeup on. The 2 things I absolutely cant live with out are my powder because i have uneven skintone and slight ance and mascara just cus my lashes look really small and pale without it.

Me, too! I'm 37 and I love makeup! I don't wear it to excess - only eyebrow dust, lip liner and nude lipstick, but I so enjoy shopping for it at my faaaavorite make-up counter - M.A.C. That line never ceases to surprise me with its stay-all-day eye shadows and lipsticks. I love it!

I have so many cool eye shadows, and when I'm feeling sassy I just dust my lids with colors like "Bitter" or "Chrome Yellow" and go! It's nice to have it for variety.

I do have very clear, smooth skin (hereditary. my mother's skin looked better than mine when she died at age 79), but even if you don't, easing up on your make-up gradually will not only allow your skin to *breathe* for a change, but it will lessen your dependency on it.

Have you with acne tried "Proactiv?" I heard that it's a miracle acne treatment. The even have keosks in malls now. With a blend of the *right* skin care line for your acne (leave the cheap-o's alone when it comes to your skin! it will dry it, and eventually eat it up!) and a minimizing the amount of make-up worn daily, your *dependency* on foundation and such will definitely boost your self confidence. Masking your skin with thick foundations and powders do nothing more but add to the problem.

Take care of your skin now while you're young!

I used to *have* to wear makeup because of my really pale, blotchy, freckly, acned skin, but ever since I discovered J&Js clean and clear invisible blemish treatment I now can go out without any make-up and my skin looks fabulous! I had tried *everything* for acne, including acutane, and had pretty much given up on ever having a beautiful complexion but now I just spend about $4 or $5 on a tube of the invisible blemish treatment that lasts me about 3mos and as long as I use it every single night my skin looks great! This was truly a miracle find for me. I had also tried proactiv and it did not work for me, but then I have very sensitive skin (so sensitive that when I once used the lowest dosage of retin-A for 3 nights my skin peeled so badly that I still have scarring from it 14yrs later!) so anything with benzoyl peroxide is just too harsh for me.

I *should* wear mascara because I'm so pale and my lashes are white blond so I tend to look washed out and not so healthy without it, but it takes so long to put mascara on because my lashes are so blond that it's just not worth it to me at this point and time. I used to have my eyelashes died and that was wonderful, but I can't find any place I'd trust that does that where I'm living now.

A hope: To have a blemish-free skin so that I do not have to wear make-up. I personally think make-up is a waste of money which I could spend on other things, not to mention the time spent on putting it on http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

My must have is a concealer. I cannot go without it. I have acne scars, old and fresh one's....it is so arghhh!

One day, I would be so happy if I do not have to worry about putting make up so I could hide my acne scars, if I don't have to shave my legs, pull hair out of my armpit, and wax my facial hair....it's almost a day just to get those things done, lol.

I usually just sweep on some mascara and some powder cause my face gets shiny. I would add lip gloss/chap stick, but I'm addicted to it anyway, I keep some UNDER MY PILLOW! hehe, so I don't count it as makeup, because it's a part of my face http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
If I go out to a party, I might add a little eyeshadow. 21 year olds like me look out of place at the bars/parties unless they're decked out http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thank God I'm blessed with great skin.(heredity) Most of the time I wear a clean face. In winter a clean face + vaseline or carmex on my lips. If I am really going "out" I wear powder, eyeliner, mascara and a colored lipgloss. And honey, I really think I'm "it" on those occasions! *lol* Never any blush or eyeshadow. I don't really know how to put on eyeshadow.

The ONLY thing I need to do is fill in my sparse eyebrows with a pencil. Other than that, I never put on any makeup at all.

I do put on lipstick and sometimes eyeliner on very special occasions. But even then sometimes I'm too lazy or just simply forget!

I don't wear makeup appart from moisturiser and lipstick/lipgloss/lipbalm, sometimes i'll use mascara. I have always suited the natural look due to my colouring. I did go through a phase of trying a light foundation, but it made my skin feel as though it was suffocating.

Some people really suit makeup and look washed out and ghostly without it, but some women go totally overboard and look as though they apply it with a trowel. I've heard from a couple of women who sleep with their makeup on and their partner hasn't ever seen them without makeup. I think that's taking it to extremes.

you know sometimes I honestly don't think my bf would notice if I got a giant tattoo and walked around all day with nothing on but a party hat...

but as far as makeup.. I cover up pimples if I get them and I'm going out... and RARELY I'll wear lipstick (to draw attention away from a BAD pimple)but I don't like doing it because my upper lip is lopsided...for the vast majority I don't really wear anything but mascara and chapstick though.. and the mascara is only because my lashes are blond and I look like I don't have any if I don't put something on them

so it's fun to play with if I'm going out or something but yeah, I pretty much can live without it

I do prefer myself with make-up,only because I think I can enhance myself with it. I dont COVER things. Sure, I'm a teen, so I get some spots. But no disaster.
I usually go to the supermarket and video store with nothin on.

But, I'll admitt, I do get anxious about what people think of me without makeup. Mum says I'm still beautiful without it, but I dunnnnno! I guess I'm just a TEENAGER!

this tpoic really struck a cord- there are a ton of posts.
i am a self-confessed make up freak- for years (i am 20- this started when i was about 11) i wouldnt even sleep over at my friends house just in case i didnt wake up before they did andthen <gasp> they'd see me without my 'face' on!

so, about 8 years later, i can finally walk out the door with only a dash of concealer if necesary and mascara- thanks in part to the love and support of my boyfreind who has said on numerous occasions, and in front of close friends and starngers, that i dont need any makeup and that he likes me better without it at all.

when i say i wore a full face of make up every day i mean a FULL face- almost like stage mae up- and i meticlulously wen to the bathroom every recess to reapply. if you have young daughters- please try to keep them away from make up for as long as possible- it turned into a debilitating crutch that i sed and came to rely on and it literally has taken me years to gain back my self confidence. there is nothing wrong with makeup- if it can help someone thenthey should use it- but dont let it rule your life

I have to wear makeup if I'm not wearing my glasses. I usually never wear makeup, not even lipstick. My skin is super oily so foundation is a pain and lipstick makes my lips peel no matter how emolient it is.

I do go out without makeup....when i am feeling lazy or sick but I have to wear my sunglasses when i do that. I am too embarrassed. I looked tired without makeup. But i can say the days when i do go without...my skin looks great and clears up. Foundation must be awful for your skin.

I think men say we look good without makeup, but sometimes do not mean it. For instance, show a picture of a woman without it and with it..the man will think she looks tired and older without it. He likes the woman with the makeup and says she looks sexier..not sickly. (an article I saw once in a magazine.) If worn right, makeup should enhance your features and make you look better.

Uh, er, um, yeah, I can go without makeup, but the real question is can YOU take it? EEEEEEEE. I think our perception of us without makeup is alot different than what other people see. I've been told I look much younger without makeup, but I sure don't see it. I don't wear alot, but if I was in a hurry, I'd have to put eyebrow pencil on (I have light eyebrows) and, of course, my lipstick on. I do try and skip the makeup on weekends just to give my skin a break and it feels great.

I also wear less makeup now than when I was a teenager (I'm 44 years old). Yes, I could definitely go without any makeup for a week....well, maybe! Honestly, I think I could do it, except for going to work. I just can't see going to work with absolutely no makeup on...no one at the office has ever seen me without makeup. I have good skin, but I would miss lipstick.

As for my husband, like most guys, he tells me that I look better without any makeup. I take that as a complement!

After taking my senior picture years ago in high school without any makeup, I always wear eyeliner. Otherwise my eyes seem to disappear and only two round dots remain. I always wear foundation because I have bits of blotchiness below my cheeks from a few old pimples because on me they last for months, and then a red nose and chin. I hate being without makeup! I went to the mall without it because I wanted to try on new foundation before buying it and I wanted a fresh face to start with. I was so uncomfortable! I tend to not wear too much, just eyeliner, foundation, blush and eyeshadow. I have tiny lips that seem to look really bad with lipstick so I don't bother with that. The least I can wear is eyeliner, and I'd have to be having a good skin day!

Hi, I never wear make up of any kind. The only time I do is at funerals or some type of big party or something. And when I do wear it, I can't wait to get home to take it off. My husband likes the natual look, thank goodness. I hate the way it feels on my face and it makes me break out too much.

Growing up I never wore any makeup. As I got into my mid-twenties, I would wear lipstick. Now, I sometimes wear lipstick, blush, and even eyeshadow sometimes!! I can't seem to find a good foundation. It appears that my face looks the same with or without foundation?!?!? Oh, and I always use my eyelash curler! Can't live without it!

What an interesting thread! I hate to wear makeup--hate to put it on, hate how it feels. I like how I look with it on though. I guess I just don't care what people who see me without it think. I don't have a lot of confidence or anything, but I just don't care, I'd rather sleep that extra 15 minutes in the morning.

I ususally only wear makeup when I go out on weekends. I just started a job where I have to dress business professional (my old job was a sweatpants and t-shirt type of job) so now I have to wear makeup to work :( I never wear it to school. I guess I just feel that there are more important things I need to do than sit around and apply eyeliner.

I don't use a lot of makeup. I usually just curl my lashes, put mascara on and some colored lip gloss. Sometimes I'll powder my face a little. I heard some good things about L'Oreal's clear lip liner so maybe I'll try that to make lip glosses stay on longer. I don't like a lot of makeup. It feels like my skin is suffocating plus I suck at putting it on and it never looks right. :p

Makeup is like a part of me, that would feel weird, going to work without makeup, I'd feel so naked. Im sure it would effect how I feel.
Well, actually, I have forgotten to put on mascara and lipstick before, and I freaked when I realized it,
I don't look bad without it, Im just so use to using it.
As long as I can use powder, a little lip color and light mascara would be good enough. My lips can look pale with color. And got to control shine with the powder. My eyes can look good both ways, but prefer a bit of mascara to bring them out.

This is funny but I have many friends whose fiancee's, husbands and boyfriends tell them they look better without make-up but if they see a dolled up chick they drool! Sometimes I think that those kind of men don't want you to look great because they don't want to deal with other dudes looking at you. The day my fiancee tells me that I look better without make-up my response to him will be "KISS IT!!!!!" hehe

I couldn't go without make-up, I can tell you that...

Worse yet, I read in Cosmo that a woman took the challenge of not looking into a mirror for an entire week. Meaning no make-up checks (I certainly can't even put make-up ON that way), no checking teeth for food...

Impossible

just_imagine
01-02-2004, 09:01 PM
Given a challenge, I could go without makeup but I sure wouldn't be happy about it. I need my concealer, foundation and powder, just to cover my acne-prone skin. If I had clear skin, makeup would not be such an issue for me.

Not checking mirrors?! Now that, I think, would be impossible. We're just too habituated to do that!
