Well, I was supposed to get a stress test and echo this past friday. I work the 3-11 shift at work, so the night before I asked the nurse coming on to relieve me at 9 so I could go home and get at least 6 hours sleep before I had to report to the hospital at 6 am for the test. My husband took the day off too to drive me there and provide moral support, and he cant really afford to take time off due to his work load. As for me, when I dont work, I dont get paid, so needless to say I lost 2 hours of pay.
When I arrived, I checked in and then was led to Nuclear Med floor. The receptionist asked me if I had my orders and I explained that the nurse at the doctors office told me "that everything was taken care of and all that was needed was for me to show up promptly at 6am".
The receptionist told me I was not in the computer to be scheduled for any test, but that she would speak with the Doctor when she arrived at 7 am and that the doc would take care of everything. (write the orders to give the okay)
At 7 am the receptionist called my name and told me that the doctor told her for me to reschedule my test. I was furious- the doctor didnt even have the decency to come out and apologize, so in my opinion that does not speak well of her character. She put an imposition on my husband and I.
I actually didnt care for her the first office visit I had. She was explaining about the upcoming tests she was going to order and I asked her a question and she rudely said "do not interrupt me until I have finished". I said nothing but it stuck in the back of my mind as being less than compasssionate and downright rude.
I am a nurse, so I am familiar with some doctors personality quirks, but being that I am a paying customer and anxious about an ailment, I expect better treatment than I deserved.
I asked for copies of my lab work and any dictation the doctor had in my chart and told them that I would be looking for another doctor. They of course blamed the hospital for the mix up, but in any case if that were true, the doctor should have come forth with an apology and went ahead with the test that same day instead of rescheduling.
I am a disgruntled patient now, but will find another doctor who is hopefully more understanding, compassionate and will not be upset if I interrupt to ask a question.
