Hi Everyone,
I like to know if stroke shows on CT scan of the head. If not, how can they determine if a person has experienced a mini-stroke.
Thanks

Ali, i went and looked it up myself (this board is deserted) CAt scan can pick this up if it was bad enough but is only 50% accurate after 1 week. So my advice is to go to ER and tell them your symptoms if you have another one and CALL YOUR DR. right now and tell them whats going on. TIA's are nothing to mess with and there is treatment.

Thanks Benzi. I will have it checked it again. Another 12 hours in ER but I have no choice.

15 hours in ER and CT is okay but when I spoke to the doctor. He stated that not all stroke are detected via MRI or CT.
Thanks
Ali

No like I said 50%, I have a feeling mine will turn out the same, 15 hours is a awful long time, Question were you having symptoms when you went in? I hate ER too! Hope you feel better soon and they figure out what this is.

When I went to ER the first time. I had dizziness, loss of movement of my left arm and sharp pain going down my lef leg, loss of vision in left eye.
It took about 9 hours to get all the tests done.
Yesterday, I just have some dizziness and headache. I live in Canada and ER is really bad.
I hope you feel better. I will see my family physcian tomorrow.

as a stroke suvivor i can only tell you my experience. i showed up at er with wierd symptons first thought to be ms. i had been having some problems for awhile that suddenly got worse. i had a ct scan and then was admitted and waited for 4 days for an mri. turns out i have had a total of 7 strokes. so in my case they did not show on the ct scan. if they did i would have had mri right away.

I had a stroke and was given a CT scan in the ER and the next day, an MRI.

I know that I am late on answering this, but hopefully I will be able to help someone... I had a massive stroke of the cerebellum January 2002 and it did not show up on CAT or XRAY for 2 days... The ER just kept sending me home with pain pills and valium telling me that I was having stress headaches...I am very lucky to be alive, my mom finally said enough and took me back and inisted that they do an MRI and they finally saw the stroke....They told them that I might not live, I was in intensive care for two weeks.... in a sleep induced coma for one of them it was so bad.... So if anyone ever thinks they might have had a stroke, please don't go by the CAT scan, insist on an MRI, it could save your life!

Hello,
I had my first stroke on 8-27-2000. I was taken to the ER where they did a CT scan. Nothing showed up. From the end of Aug. to the middle of Nov. I spent my time going to my physician, neurologists, brain surgeons, and the ER. I had numerous tests ran including 6 MRIs, CT scans, spinal tap, and many others. Finally, in the middle of November, when I was completely paralyzed on my left side, I was taken to the ER where they did yet another MRI. FINALLY the strokes had started showing up on the MRI. My neurologist was able to see where I had 3 major strokes. According to the Dr's, my strokes were caused by a combination of birth control and smoking. However, I'm still not convinced. I had smoked and taken the pill for several years with no problem. But I had recently taken depo Lupron shots for endometreosis. I had read the many dangers of this shot before I took it, but went ahead with it anyway. Anybody else ever hear of someone taking this shot and having a stroke?

I had a stroke in the right parietal lobe and it was detected in an MRI.
