Hi all,
My wife has been a diabetic type 1 for 22 years now, she is now 28. Lately she has had some bad nausea spells, lasting for a while. She has had them in the past, but it seems to be getting worse. She some times will vomit to feel better. Her endo doc suggested seeing a gast doc. Does anybody know what could be causing it? Or how to make her feel better.
Thanks to all who reply.
Andy

if she had been having this problem for a while it would be advisable to follow the drs reccommendations.. since she is only 28 could she possible be pregnant?

There is a condition caused by diabetes called gastroparesis...it's when the nerves to the stomach don't function properly and so the stomach does not empty. People with gastroparesis do frequently feel nauseous, and vomiting relieves that feeling because it empties the stomach.

She definitely needs to see a gastroenterologist to determine exactly what's going on, but meanwhile do a google search on gastroparesis. I'd also suggest going to the American Diabetes Association's web site and searching this subject...I'm pretty sure Diabetes Forecast did an in-depth article on this within the past two years.
