ok heres the deal, my girlfriend had here first outbreak (genital)about a year ago, the wierd thing is, i am the only person she has done anything with and she was the only person i was with for over 2 years before that, i have had cold sores maybe 3 my entire life but never had genital, ive never had a single thing that could make me even think it was a minor outbreak, so does this mean that i have genital herpes???? ive done some research and they say the first outbbreak happens in the first 2-12 days og getting it and its been 3 and a half years and ive had nothing but still concerned because we are not together anymore and i dont want to give it to someone else if i do have it, please let me know, thanks.

If you both were virgins when you met, you probably gave her your oral herpes genitally--that is, when you had oral sex, you passed it to her. If you never had oral sex, I couldn't guess how she got it.
That means you probably wouldn't have it genitally.

Not all herpes shows within 2-21 days. There are many cases where the virus lays dormant or it will show so mildly that the person to contracted it has no clue they have it. Given the fact that you suffer coldsores ( which are herpes ) then there is a good possibility you unknowlingly transmitted the virus to her back then and it is just coming alive in her now. You don't have to have a coldsore active on you ( yet another unfortunate thing with herpes... it can transmit through something called ''viral shedding''). Your ex needs to read up on it and there are so many sites which provide facts and answser those '' what if '' questions. Take care and hope your both have support you need.
