I was diagnosed with epilepsy since age 16, so I have had it for 10 years. I took Tegretol (did not tolerate it well at all), Keppra (allergic) Dilantin, Depakote, Neurontin & Lamictal. After being on Dilantin and Neurontin for 8 years, I started taking Lamictal and Neurontin.

I found (when I was taking the Dilantin & Neurontin) that if I do not drink caffine and limit my intake of caffeine through chocolate, that my petit mals decrease signficantly. I even did a behavior modification study on it for a behavior mod class when I was in college and it showed that the elimination of caffeinated beverages decreased the petit mals significantly.

I guess what I want to know, has anyone else done this and has it worked for you? I had really bad withdrawal at first going from drinking 5 cups of coffee a day (hey I was in college and it was my senior year! :) but the end result was amazing.

So does anyone else refrain from caffeine and notice a decrease in petit mals? I miss my Dr. Pepper but I'm surviving. :D

I don't drink coffee or pop. I only have chocolate about once a week and I may have about one cup of tea a month. Boy, is it fun when I do go on a caffeine binge! :bouncing:
I slowly dropped one thing at a time. Seriously, caffeine is addictive and once you go awhile without it, it's almost undesirable, at least for me. I used to drink pop everyday all day and now I absolutly hate it! Coffee is for dire emergencies (i'm in my junior year of college, you seem to know how it goes) :)

Same with me, I am on Dilantin and Keppra and if I eat chocolate or drink caffeine, it seems my brain goes into overdrive. I will usually have a seizure within a day. Like clockwork.

Nobody actually told me either. My doctor said that he had never heard that before.

I also get kind of messed up if I do an hour's worth of excercise.

I originally had some issue with dehydration and electrolytes being low.

How about you?

Ps. I am pretty sure that I hydrate myself properly, eat bananas, drink milk, etc.
