Hello all :)

I was diagnosed with HSV2 4 weeks ago, since then my primary OB has cleared and I'm taking 1gm Valtrex and 2-4g lysine daily, thanks to this board (quite informative, thanks all).

I've been seeing someone since my initial OB, thankfully she is being quite understanding about this so far. So as the title says my girlfriend gets cold sores occasionally (HSV1). Do we know of any interplay or special reactions between HSV1 and HSV2? What I mean is that is there less of a chance of one of use to get the other form, considering the virus is already there in one form? This could of course be wishful thinking, however I am continually amazed at how this virus works.

There are people who have both. Also, it is very possible to reinfect yourself in a different area, so it would also be possible to get reinfected in a different area by someone else--say, you could get it on your lips.

thanks backpacker :) I suppose it was wishful thinking that there would be some reistance to reinfection.

Maybe some people do have some sort of resistence, but since some also have both 1 and 2, or have reinfected themselves with the same strain, it's better not to count on it.

Good for you for finding a supportive partner!
