Hello, I hope I'm in the right forum here but I had a question about Hubby's diabetes. Ok, here it is. He is on Metformin and Lisinopril for the diabetes and my question is does anyone know if either of these meds can cause sexual problems, like losing erections and low sex drive? He was on Neurontin for a while and this problem started. He stopped taking it like 5-6 months ago and the problem is still here. It is really bothering him and me also, but he tells me it isn't me or anything I'm doing. Anyone having this problem or have any answers?

Diabetes affects blood circulation and since an erection is just blood flowing to the penis diabetes can also affect erections. But there may be other issues involved such as blood pressure medicines, depression, anxiety-- any of these things can trigger sexual problems. Dont blame yourself. Consult a doctor.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for roughly fourty six years. When I first experienced E D, aka sexual side effects, there were no Rx meds to help. After seeing a few specialists, my new family Dr. recommended that I take two vitamin B complex pills daily. I found that this handled the problem for many years. I still take the super B complex, but at this point I find the Muse Rx is the answer for me. Calis and Viagra also work.

HOWEVER--do not automatically blame the diabetes for sexual problems. I've been diabetic for 40 years, and have never experienced any sexual performance problems, or loss of desire. I am the same today, at the age of 52, after 40 years of diabetes, as I was when I was 18, after only 6 years with it. I feel we are too quick to use diabetes as an automatic excuse for all of our problems...

All medications that affect your motabulism have the potential to affect erections. All disorders taht any of us feel are not curable can slo do this. the lisnopril is a blood pressure medication. The Blood pressure itself can cause impotence but then again so can the meds to fix it.

If your husband isn't healthy, (his diet and what not) this can play a major part in diabetics and sexual stimulation and erections. Diabeties as said before will affect the flow of blood to the penis. It doesn't neccasarily mean that it is from being diabetic, but it can play a major part in it.
