Hello everyone,
If I could throw somwthing out to see if anyone might have an answer. Does Effexor cause weight gain? I am on 225mg in am and have been for a few months. I am also on Risperdal which has been a few mos but am down to .5 mg at night. Can that amount cuase such weight gain or is it the Effexor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone has the best day that they can. That's about what I hope for anymore... :bouncing:

When I was taking Effexor the initial dose of it made me lose weight but then I started gaining for no reason at all. I definitely believe it was the Effexor. I was on the medication for about a year and I stopped using it in the Spring of this year. I switched over to Lexapro. I haven't gained weight from using this and I actually feel alot better mentally :D .

Hi I was on effexor for awhile and i never noticed any weight gain, but i did have bad withdrawls from it when I missed a dose. But my step mother is also on it it and has been for four years, she always noticed a decreased appetite and nausea... I guess it just shows all our reactions are different. Risperidol! I was on it about 8-12 months and I gained 60-80 pounds... so the risperidol could very well be the contributing factor to gaining weight.. a lot of people do with risperidol.... I wish you luck!

I take this med. No weight gain for me. The wife takes a load of others and has had a wieght issue.
