Ok I am new to this board so I will startw ith saying hello. And my name is Amy.
I have been having this digestive stuff for awhile now. Started back i April I was excersing alot doing pilates etc. I started burping alot and alot of gas ingeneral. I would feel the gas build in my chest and then i would burp I also had some stomach discomfort. Then started what felt like heart palps or flips. I went to Dr he did EKG 2 of htem and i wore a holter moniter and showed nothing. I seen my CHiro whom says I have a hiatal hernia and some minor gallbladder issues I dont know if the heart palp is palp or a spasm of some sort cause after i feel it I will burp alot of the time. I have been getting better with Chiro treatment and adjusting my hernia but some days I still feel its my heart. I have been reassured its not and at worst its all the irritation to my vagus nerve stimulating my heart UGGHH. At most times i am ok with it all but some days its scarey.
Does any of this some familar to anyone.

thanks
amy

Hi Amy :) I do not know of any association between a hiatal hernia/digestive disorder and heart arrythmias/heart disease. I do know that a hiatal hernia can do a lot of damage to the esophagus, from allowing stomach acid to "backflow" from the stomach into the esophagus, and cause GERD. Have you tried the protein pump inhibitors like nexium? That might stop your symptoms, if they are not heart related. Many women get these hernias from motherhood (pregnancy), or that is what the doctor told my wife. Some info from the NIH (national institutes of health) : "Studies have shown that asthma, chronic cough, and pulmonary fibrosis may be aggravated or even caused by GERD."You may have GERD and heart palpitations both. I think most of us can tell when our heart skips a beat, then restarts hard, or when we have PVC's. I would try to take care of the digestive problems and see what happens. Surgery for a hiatal hernia can easily be botched, I have read and heard  Maybe someone can give you better info on your problems. Good luck :)

Hi there, If you do a google search with PVC's and Gerd you will find a lot of people with your same problem. I had bad reflux last year and it would trigger my pvc's (flutter) like crazy. Good luck and make sure you get your calcium, potassium, and magnesium. The calcium will help your esophagus calm down and the other two are important to your heart.
