If you can get to a Planned Parenthood or other clinic while the sore is there (menaing go tomorrow if you can), they can culture it by wiping the sore with a q-tip. They will know if it's herpes after a few days. It's best if you ask them when you should call for the results instead of waiting for them to call--sometimes they neglect to call.

And even though having herpes is serious thing, you can learn to live with it. I've had it for about 15 years, and in that time have found a soulmate and had children, and had a great sex life.
