I was wondering which is the most popular electric toothbrush. I'm stuck between:
1)Phillips Sonicare
2)An Oral-B one
3)Rotadent
Anyone have any opinions

I never heard of rotadent but i have an oral B (had the expensive one and that finally broke after 10 years, then i got the cheap one, and now i have the expensive one again.) I asked my periodontist and she said that sonicare is all hype. They do a lot of advertising but she has read studies of both and thinks oral b is better. So, since my husband likes Oral B i got another one of those and I am happy with it.

My last dentist included the Rotadent, as an integral part of his office hygiene program, in which my gums were closely monitored and scaled at least every 3 months. In other words, the Rotadent is usually dispensed through the dental office, for those patients on a specific dental hygiene program.
I recently noticed that the longstanding rivalry between the Oral B and the Sonicare people, one claiming to be more effective for plaque removal than the other, has been somewhat resolved. How? Oral B has just released into the marketplace their own version of the Sonicare brush, that operates to produce ultrasonic vibrations.
All three are quite expensive electric toothbrushes, but all more effective than the low cost Spinbrush types. You pay for what you get. Palter

I love my Sonicare, and my dentist used to tell me I had mild gingivitis...no more once I started using the Sonicare (about 3 years ago now). I swear by it....but I haven't tried either of the others....

Hey Palter, according to my dentist, and i haven't actually seen any of these studies myself, studies show that you can get the same result from manually brushing. the problem is, she says, people do not brush correctly or for long enough. so if you kept up your brushing for 2 minutes each time and used a rotating motion instead of up and down, she claims the results are the same as the electric toothbrush. Since very few people do this, she recomends electric as it gets people to brush correctly. I have been using the electric toothbrush for only a few months and i agree with this. It is a lot easier to brush at all, let alone in a circular motion and in all the back and inside corners with an electric toothbrush. so i am sold on the idea. Which one? Probably a matter of individual preference. Both of the commercial brands sell at Costco for around $59-79 with multiple brushes and multiple brush holders.

I think I'm going to buy one of the Oral B Professional Care Series. I can't decide between th 7000 and the 8000 series. The 8000 series comes with all these extra head attachments. Is that the only difference, or does the 8000 series one actually clean better?

I have used the oral b and the sonicare. I personnally like the sonicare better. I just love the way my teeth feel after using it.Sonicare use to offer that if your next checkup isn't the best you have had then they would pay for it. Now that's if you are using the brush on a regular bases. I don't know if they still do that or not.It leaves your teeth feeling like you just had a cleaning.Love It. The other post is correct is say you can get the same result manually, but the problem is that i bet more then half of the people don't know how to properly brush their teeth or brush long enough. Circular motion, 45 degree angle brushing no more then 2 teeth at a time and brushing for 2 min total. I think everyone is right that it's going to be personnal preferces. Not every dentist you talk to is going to say the same one. So you really have to just pick one and try it. The bad this is that those are not cheap if you don't like it.
