I can't recall if my friend's injury was a twisting or falling injury...but she told me it happened 3 weeks ago. There has been no swelling, no bruising, and it is not sore to the touch. It's apparently only slightly painful to walk on, it doesn't seem to be slowing her down at all...she also demonstrated to me an awkward angle her ankle has to be at to cause what she calls "a stabbing, extreme pain almost like someone is stabbing me with a knife".

I couldnt' even figure out myself what part of the ankle the symptoms would have to do with, whether it be an injury to a tendon, a ligament, or even a hairline fracture. We're both confused. She thinks it's been quite a long time to still be experiencing the pain, but I know ankles aren't an easy body part to heal.

What do you guys think? She doesn't have the money to have it looked at right now so she's trying to at least take good measures in not making it worse.

was there an x ray done at the time of injury or since then?If one has not been done, at the very least, this should be done to determine if there is some damage to the bones in there.Suprisingly, when there is an actual fracture, it seems to look better(no major swelling or bruising) than if you sprained it.It also will normally take much longer to heal a bad sprain than a fracture.I had a severe sprain in my R ankle like ten years ago.I could not put any weight on that foot for at least a week.I mean absolutely no weight at all as when I did, the pain was horrendous and my ankle just kind of crumbled and I would start to go down.my doc told me that i would have had less problems if I had actually broke it than sprained it.A sprain will cause alot of damage to tendons and ligaments which usually takes a very long time to heal.a fracture,if it is casted, will heal much quicker and will usually involve much less pain.I had lingering problems from my ankle sprain for almost two years. It only bothers me now when the weather is rather damp,or if the weather changes rather quickly.Your friend really needs to have this checked on by a doc and an x ray or he she could end up with a permanent disability in the future.I hope all goes well.Marcia
