Ok,
My mother has been bipolar for as long as I can remember...she's never been diagnosed because she fails to recognize she has a problem. Even after talking to her when she is "normal" or in a manic mood, we (my family) can never convince her that she needs help...she likes to think that the rest of us have a problem, and she is "normal". She often combines alcohol to her manic moods (although, she isn't Always drinking when she is in one of them)...in other words, alcohol doesn't have to be present for her to get into her sudden mind change. She has been getting worse over the last few months...now, instead of her "moods" hitting her once or twice a month- it is every weekend. Seems to have increased ever since she quit smoking. When she drinks while in one of her moods, she often gets so hammered that she is a danger to herself. She once fell down the stairs & broke 2 of her ribs. Another time she walked into a pine tree, fell in a ditch & broke her arm. Another time she fell off my aunts boat & into the lake. And another time at a family party she was in the bathroom & hit her head on a soap dish when she fell into the bath tub (required stitches). I could go on & on about the injuries she has caused. I'm starting to think she has "lost" it completely...I'm wondering if she has something in addition to bipolar? Yesterday she was in one of her "moods" and was mad at me..well, she went upstairs & hit herself in the head (not sure if she purposely inflicted it on herself, or if she fell & caused this)...then she came downstairs & told my dad that I slammed her into a wall & caused this lump on her head(my dad knows this is not true & plus, at the time, I was in the basement). Well, today she is acting all normal, but she has convinced herself that I did this to her...she said to me this morning "why did you slam me like that, you could have killed me!" But other than believing this, she is acting like her "normal" self...It's not the first time that she has constructed something that has never happened. She once accused my dad of molesting me & said she saw him come into my room at night. Then told me, "don't worry, I've seen it. I will get you out of this house & away from that *******." I just can't believe it, she makes things up in her head & believes these "scenarios" she plays out. Is this common with bipolar...or is there some other mental condition she could have in addition to this?
