Hi there everyone,
Before this year I had maybe one panic attack per year but I've always been deathly afraid of vomitting. Since April of this year I have been having frequent panic attacks, sometimes more than once per day. All of them have been related to being afraid of throwing up because I haven't been feeling well lately. The doctors aren't sure, but they think that maybe my ill feeling is a result of my anxiety all of these years surrounding throwing up and that it is now all catching up with me. Every time I've panicked, it's been because of fear of throwing up but recently I'm getting afraid to leave home for fear of having a panic attack while I'm out. I really don't want to be afraid to leave my home! Does this happen to anyone else and would you have any advice. So many thanks.

Hi Kris,
Sorry to hear about you fearing to leave your home. I have been having P/A's since March and I also had the fear of leaving my home. I have tried a few different medicines, but they just seem to make me feel worse(although they do help alot of people). I finally got tired of just staying at home and decided to try to something to get through this "THING". So this is what I did. For about a week I would go to the parking lot of the local department store and just watch the people go in and out. Then for about another week I would actually go just inside the front and buy a soda and just look around for a minute or two. Finally I got the nerve to go all the way in the store and just look around(not intending to buy anything yet) for a little while. Now I think I have convienced myself that I can go int there and not have a P/A. I still get a little uneasy feeling(but they are getting less and less with every trip) when I am in there but it is worth it just to get out of the house. As a senior member of this site I am sure that you know the benefits of it. It has helped me realize that I am not alone in this and can always come here for advice or just to vent. I am sure that you will beat this and "DANCE" your way out of your house!!!

to krisdance,
sounds like a severe case of emetophobia or fear of vomiting, details on the net

valium type meds in a large enough dose will calm you for a while and let you go out and do things
try carrying an airsick bag with you when out , this may reassure you
