View Full Version : Metamucil Question

Hi,

As per my last few posts I have been a little constipated this week. Probably mostly due to the fact that I am stressing and worried about seeing a little blood on the tissue paper again! Isn't the mind a wonderful thing. I currently only drink water through the day, eat mainly vegetables and have cut out most red meat. To get my bowels back on track again I am thinking about taking some metamucil. My questions are this:

1. If I take it shall I become dependent on it and never be able to go without it?

2. Will it cover up any symptoms that I may have to tell a Dr about?

3. As I am going away skiing this weekend, will the metamucil hit me suddenly (and embarrassingly while I am away sharing accommodation with friends?)

Thank you very much for reading!

Hi, there. Don't worry about Metamucil causing you to have a sudden BM. It's not like that kind of laxative. However, if you're constipated, it's going to help move your bowels along, so don't know exactly when you'd have to find a BR. Metamucil is a bowel "regulator", in other words, it helps people with constipation, and in my case, firms up my stools to help control diarrhea. Be sure to tell your doc you're taking metamucil - he or she'll be thrilled, I'm sure. All docs recommend increased fiber in our diets to maintain bowel health, and metamcuil is great for that. It shouldn't cover up any other bowel problems you might be having, it will help to regulate your system, but it's not a cure for more serious bowel disorders.

Good luck to you,
Katie G
