Diarrhea for three months (chronic diarrhea) needs to be investigated, so you should really go and see your doc. It could be anything from IBS, food intolerances to a whole host of other things, colitis, crohns and the like.

I agree with Super Sarah. If this is a sudden change in your "usual" bowel habits, you need to find out why. It may be no big deal, but get to your doctor anyway for piece of mind. Once you know why you're having chronic "D", then you can post questions on the boards to get advice from others who are also having similar issues.

Just a word of advice. Never let diarrhea go unchecked for more than a couple of days as it can lead to electrolyte imbalances as well as dehydration. Get this checked out ASAP.

I am going to a doctor in Florida on the 13th, just to get checked out for other reasons, i've had some other weird things, and i'm trying to learn how to gain weight.. I want to mention it to him then, but i am really embarrased about it, and my mom will be in there with me too, and thats embarrassing. Is there anyway that I won't have to tell him? because he's doing like a whole body thing, for food allergies and everthing under the sun, so I'm wondering if I won't have to tell him ... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif

The doctor is not going to know if you do or don't have diarrhea unless he asks you so yes you will need to tell him. This is something that you should not have left go as long as you did. The doctor is only their to help the patient regarless of what the patients problem is so don't be embarressed to tell him. As for being embarrassed to tell your mother....no need to have been graphic just say "mom..I have been having a problem with having to run to the bathroom real often for past few days is there something you can give me for it?."

Don't be embarrassed to tell your doctor anything. They've heard it all before, and any good doc will be sympathetic to your problems. Believe me, I was SO embarrassed and ashamed to admit to my doctor that I'd been having "accidents" due to my diarrhea, and wasn't even 40 years old yet! I was sure he was going to just blow it off, but when he saw that I was in tears over the humiliation, he was so kind and caring. If you're embarrassed to have your mom in there, maybe she could wait somewhere else so you can talk to the doctor in private? Don't hold back any concerns - the doctor is not a mind reader, and if you don't tell him now, he's not going to treat your problems accordingly. It's better to face the embarrassment and lay it all out for him, so you can get the appropriate treatment.

Chronic "D". I know the feeling and I am totally with you on that. I have the same thing. But to those thinking I should have it checked out I already have. And speaking of embarassing things and doctors i just have to mention this. Doctors are there to help people and what is embarassing to you, well I'm sure they don't think much of it. They see all sorts of things everyday and they have so much to offer. It may be embarassing at the time but hopefully it will pay off because hopefully they will find out what is wrong and put a stop to it all. There are all sorts of things they can do. They can start with simple things such as stool cultures which are not fun, take my word for it, but it provides answers. And if that shows nothing then maybe they will suggest something such as a colonoscopy. There are answers to the questions that you have and I'm sure that if you get things checked out you will get a few answers. Me here I'm sixteen and have chronic "D". I've also had to do a stool culture, had a colonoscopy, and a barium/air contrast. Hang in there and remember you are not alone in this. Chins up. :)

I had chronic diarhea for about 6 months. I originally thought it was from eating the wrong foods as i have coeliacs disease and cant eat wheat. It kept happening though till i was eventually diagnosed with having IBS i suggest going to the doctors because no one needs to live with that. If you do go to the doctors and are diagnosed with IBS i strongly recommend then seeing a natropath. I have been seeing one and i have never felt better. I hope it all clears up for you though its not nice to live with i know :)
