Well I am sure alot of you know what I went through last month with the PVC's, but they really stopped after I stopped my Period.. anyways my question is, and I am not complaining any.. but the PVC's only seem to happen when I go to bed, maybe a couple before I fall asleep and then I wake up, and I am fine all day.. but when it comes to after like 8 or 9pm at night, I could have a couple sitting on the couch resting, or when I lay in bed.. but if I rest at the computer during the afteroon or watch TV on the couch in the morning I am fine and don't have any till night time? How come? I never use to have a problem getting any of these going to bed before.. this just started a couple weeks ago..

the only thing I should mention is that I still have a little bit of acute bronchitis, I am all done the antibiotics, but still cough some, not much. Anyone else go through this just at night?

as you guys might know I take Toprol 50mg.. I am just curious as to why they happen when I go to bed, or relax on the couch at night.. it's not alot in a row, but a couple to make me questionable.

Thanks for all your help..

Everyone, man or beast, has a circadian rhythm, or internal clock, which has an effect on the functioning of their endocrine system. The endocrine system pumps hormones into the body, and these hormones can cause heart rhythm problems.

For instance, the Pineal gland becomes more active at night and starts pumping more melatonin, which helps with one's ability to sleep, but also has other effects.

For more info, research "circadian rhythm" or Pineal Gland.

It might have something to do with being supine. The whole hydraulics of the body is altered when lying lown after being erect all day.

Thanks for your response.. it's just weird, this never happened to me before 3 weeks ago.. I NEVER had a problem sitting on the couch at night watching movies and TV and relaxing.. maybe once in a great while I would get one at night or something. Last night, I came home, sat on the couch with my feet up to watch a little TV and about 15 min into resting I got a couple PVC's.. I got back up, sat at the computer and none.. I sat back down at the couch to watch more TV and I got 3 of them.. I went to bed and was fine.. I was really tired though.. but I mean we are talking about a night owl here, before all this happened 3 weeks ago, I could stay up till 4am and NEVER go through this.. I have always been a night owl.. I just don't understand why this happens at night when resting.. it's REALLY weird!

Welcome to the wonderful world of allergies.

Along with allergic reactions comes PVCs. When the endocrine system starts pumping hormones, in response to an allergen attack, it can effect how the heart beats. At night, the hormone levels are different because of everyone's circadian rhythm.

I had to get rid of both my wall to wall carpetting and my upholstered couch. I now use only leather-type recliners and couches, no upholstered furniture.

Allergies can be brought on after a bout with a virus, fungal or bacterial infection.

Many many years ago, I used to get them at the same times as you do, after a hard days work. I think that in my case, my mind and body seemed to change gears, or downshift to low, when I lay down for the night, and as a result my heart palped during this shift. I think the "circadian rhythm" and the "hydraulics of the body in the supine position" may be right on here. Palpitations are a somewhat rare (1 of 100 patients, or 1%) side effect of Toprol. It can also cause bronchial problems, like many beta blockers. Here is some more info:

Toprol CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Metoprolol is a beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic receptor blocking agent. This preferential effect is not absolute, however, and at higher plasma concentrations, metoprolol also inhibits beta2-adrenoreceptors, chiefly located in the bronchial and vascular musculature.

SIDE EFFECTS

Most adverse effects have been mild and transient. The following adverse reactions have been reported for metoprolol tartrate.

Central Nervous System: Tiredness and dizziness have occurred in about 10 of 100 patients. Depression has been reported in about 5 of 100 patients. Mental confusion and short-term memory loss have been reported. Headache, somnolence, nightmares, and insomnia have also been reported.

Cardiovascular: Shortness of breath and bradycardia have occurred in approximately 3 of 100 patients. Cold extremities; arterial insufficiency, usually of the Raynaud type; palpitations; congestive heart failure; peripheral edema; syncope; chest pain; and hypotension have been reported in about 1 of 100 patients.

Respiratory: Wheezing (bronchospasm) and dyspnea have been reported in about 1 of 100 patients.

Thanks Jack and everyone else... it does make sense.. it just stinks because I NEVER use to go through this before.. this JUST started about 3 weeks ago.. I have been on Toprol 50mg since February this year and never had a problem with winding down after the day. ALTHOUGH I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but 2 weeks ago my DR put me up from toprol 50mg to 100mg and then after a week brought me back down to 50mg.. now that I think about it.. I take my Toprol 9:30pm every night.. I am wondering if that has something to do with it.. maybe I will relax tonight around 9:30pm and take the toprol at 11 and see if I get them in between those times.. it's just WEIRD.. I wish I knew what was going on with me. Not that it's a bad thing but, I have been HAVING to go to bed at midnight lately because I have been getting PVC's relaxing watching TV.. I miss my late nights to do what I like to do, but how can I now that these things come at night? I dunno.. maybe it is what you guys are saying, but why now? why not all these months before? weird....
