My neuro is going to try to control my seizures and my migraines with the same drug. I spent hours last night reading all about the side effects of Topamax. It's scary. I just hope I don't experience them. There's only one way to know - and that's to take it.

I do have a question, though. The tingling sensation in the hands and feet - does that often go away with time or is that something that lasts the entire time you take Topamax?

Hi Spongebob Mom,

I take 300 mg./ day of Topamax for epilepsy. I was taking dilantin for 23 years until the end of September, when my neurologist switched me to topamax. I really like it. I ramped up rather quickly, so yes, I have experienced the tingly feeling, which is now beginning to subside, but it is working quite well for me. Don't be afraid of topa, if I can help you further [ removed ] let me know. I can fill you in on what I've been thru.

Jane, I was wondering if you had started your topamax, and if everything was ok so far? It is good that you had the chance to read up on it before you actually began taking it. I have not started the Topamax. I am going to wait until Sat. night to start because my son is having his 6th b-day party Sat. and I am having a house full of people (including many kids). So, just to play it safe, I am waiting. I have no idea how I am going to react to topa, and I don't want to be feeling bad for the party.

But I will keep you posted on how I do.

Probably a good idea. Good for you wanting to be your best for the party. Some of our best memories are our kids parties over the years. Goodness, it's hard to believe our last one will reach her 20's next spring. My, time goes too fast to miss out on anything like birthday parties . I sure hope the topa works well for you. It is smoothing out so well for me, and I really want to encourage everyone I can.

I started topamax 3 weeks ago for migraines. My doctor is going to increase my dosage every 2 weeks depending on how it is helping me. I started on 25mgs at night for the first two weeks. I felt a little better but I was still getting the migraines...but absolutely no side effects. I have started my first week of 50mgs. It is also a little bit better than with the 25mgs.....and still absolutely no side effects. I don't know if it is because he is increasing me slowly or if it is because I am on such a low dosage still. I can say that I am feeling better and hoping that with the 75mgs I will see a substantial difference. I wish you luck and I hope you have great success.

Wow, that is so great that you're not having any side effects! I have a friend who takes it for migraine relief and she doesn't hardly have any side effects either. She has tried ALL kinds of meds and nothing has helped except Topamax. She swears by it.

I really hope you're able to increase it without any side effects. You've given me hope, thank you!

I wish you the best of luck. I don't know what your mgs are but I will let you know if I do experience any side effects with each increase. Think positive that is what will get you through it.

I took Topomax for a couple of years. The only side effects I experienced was a loss of appetite and some weight loss.

How many mgs were you taking? I am not experiencing that side effect at all and that was the only one I was looking forward to. I am ending the second week of my 50mgs with no side effects and I am going to start next Monday with my 75mgs at night.
