View Full Version : Dry Socket

I had my top right wisdom tooth extracted about a week ago. A few days later I had intense pain in my whole mouth, jaw bone and sore throat. I went back to the dentist and he told me I had dry socket. They packed it with gauze and put me on antibiotics and pain killers.

It has been 2 days and still hurts quite a bit and some of the stuff they used to pack it is coming out. Is this normal? How can it heal when there is stuff half way out? I called my dentist and he said it was normal and it should stay in there until it heals. When can I expect some relief?

I had opened a similar topic about a week ago ... I was diagnosed with a dry socket on the 4th day post extraction. It's been over a week and it's finally (knock on wood) getting better. I stil go to the dentist to change the packing every few days.
The fact that it's coming out is due to either the fact that's it's an upper tooth and gravity just takes place or b/c it's healing and pushing the gauze out. In any case, if it helps then it's worth it.

I'm sure you'll be fine in no time, upper teeth heal much better and faster than lower ones.
