What is psyllium husk and where do you find it? And, how effective is it for constipation. I have tried everything!!! Metamucil, fiber pills, stool softners and cereal with high fiber. The cereal worked for awhile then my body must have gotton use to it. Any suggestions?

Chistina,
For you to have BMs ---you Have to intake fiber in some form. At least 20 to 35grams daily. All meat including seafood and all dairy products contain NO fiber. Fiber is contained in all nuts, fruits and veggies in different amounts. The best kind is fiber that absorbs water like grains, potatoes, fruit ---nuts and wheat bran donot absorb water but we really need both for our intestines to function properly.
Psyllium husk is a water absorbable fiber that is the active stuff in Metamucil, Konsyl, Equate from Wal Mart and many others. I think it's grown in India.
You have to take it with enough water or it will cause constipation. It really is a stool bulking agent and works for diarrhea as well. It is safe to take daily and should be for it to work properly. Just start off slow and increase the dose like the directions say ---usually 2 or 3 times daily.
If you're constipated ---take fiber, drink enough water and get enough exercise!!! It's THAT simple!!!
God Bless---Harry
