Hello all, Wed of last week, I fumbled my curling iron and burned the cornea of my eye (ouch!! ). A week later, I still have some blurring and am experiencing headaches. I'm sure this is all normal. The opthalmologist said there will be no permanent damage, and I am not the first woman to have done this.

Has anyone else experiences this? Thanks.

Oh yes, Linda, I have done the very same thing to my eye! One morning getting ready for work and just lost a grip of my curling iron and it goes right into my eye. I immediately knew that I had done something very bad and called my husband into the room. I called my opthalmologist and they told me to come in right away. My doctor took pictures of my eye and told me I had a pretty good burn (and it was to my left eye that I had previously had surgery on). He didn't patch it but gave me plenty of medicine to put in it to prevent infection. I remember when the blister broke and I had to put those drops in my eye I would scream because it hurt so bad. I missed about three days of work. I could hardly keep my eyes open and mostly laid around on the couch doing nothing. I was wishing that my doctor had put a patch on it because since that eye hurt so bad, I had a difficult time keeping my other eye open.

I told my doctor to please tell me that I wasn't the first one to have done such a stupid thing and he just laughed. I guess they have seen all sorts of accidents.

Isn't it nice to know that you're not the only one to have gone through this?

how long before healing?
Did you have any chronic problems from it?

Not sure if your question is directed to me or to Btrcup but here's my reply. Seems like it was only about two or three weeks for healing with repeated visits to my doctor. The burn was to the white part of my eye and right below my iris. The burned area was not that small either. Luckily I had no infection that would have set me back and the burn to my eye has never bothered me since. You can't even tell that I burned it and it was over 10 years ago when it happened.
