View Full Version : Can a bloodtest show cancer?

I have been very worried lately that I have a brain tumor, although I had half of an MRI, I had to get out early because I had a panic attack. The doctors said they found nothing but stuffy sinuses and didnt say i needed another one. They did not however use the contrasting dye or anything like that. I also had a blood test which came back normal.

Would a blood test show brain cancer or a brain tumor?

Should I ask for another MRI or can I be completely sure that I am fine?

Sometimes your CEA or CA19-9 levels will be higher than normal. You have to make sure they test for this though!

Joanner is absolutely right that those markers can be up in cancer, but those particular ones are usually up in colon cancer. Cancer is a term which accounts for a whole bunch of diseases which are actually different. The point of me telling you this is because there are different markers for different cancers.

Anyway, why are you scared you have a brain tumour? Tell me your symptoms and how long they have been going on for. Why did the doctor give you an MRI? Are you actually having any neurological symptoms?
