I need some advice on what is going on...I have not had a normal BM for 9 days. I took a dulcolax suppository saturday night and nothing happened except for cramps and a samll amount of pink colored mucous. Then on Monday I started taking Colace and did an enema, I had a small amount come out and then a little bit of diarrhea about 30 minutes later. Then later that night I tried another dulcolax and nothing. I still felt like I wasn't done and it definatley didn't seem like enough to make up for 6 days of not gong. On Wendesday I tried another enema and had a very small BM and more of the pinkish colored mucous, then I tried another enema thinking I just didn't hold it long enough, and only a little more came out. Today I took 2 tablespoons of milk of magnesia and have only had brownish water come out. No normal stools at all. I feel like I need to go, but I can't. If this is constipation then shouldn't one of these things be helping?? What is wrong with me and why isn't anything working!! Please give me some advice, I really need it!

What kind of enemas are you taking? The over the counter disposable kind just aren"t that good.I was really clogged up a few years ago and felt miserable.I tried what you tried and got about the same results.I went to the drug store and bought the largest enema bag that I could find (2 quarts) and then remembered that as a child my mother would feed me prunes and that would help.I felt really bad but managed to eat about 10 prunes and drank as much water as I could hold.About 2 hours later I started to have a BM but I knew that there was more that needed to come out.I mixed a 2 quart soapy water enema (use a mild hand soap 1 teaspoon) and took it all in.I managed to holt it for about 5 minutes and released a ton of crud.I repeated this twice more followed by a plain warm water enema and felt absolutly fantastic.I use this about once a month and have not been constipated for years.Try it,you will probably like it.i hope that this helps you.

I did use the regular store enema. I just don't understand why all of this wouldn't have worked if it is just normal constipation. My stomache is so bloated that I look pregnant!

I really feel for you,I hope that you have found some relief by now.The disposable enemas just don't have the volume that you need to flush out your colon.Try the warm soapy water enemas and I'm sure that you will get results. It was a giant leap for me to try it the first time but I don't mind it now at all.The empty clean feeling is wonderful. Start out slowly with maybe a pint or so. Make sure that the solution is warm and not hot. Try to retain it for 5 minutes and next time try a little more solution,
Keep this up until you are clean. A disposable enema just won't do this for you. Good luck and keep posted.

When i get this way,i go to the drug store and buy a bottle of that magnesium citrate? If you do this, make sure it is like over the weekend when you don't have to be anywhere as when this stuff hits,it hits so you definitely do not want to be far from a bathroom.I had taken this stuff in the morning and kept waiting and waiting all flippin day for it to kick in but nothing happened, sop I went to bed only to me awoken about an hour later by the overwhelming urge to get to the bathroom ASAP! i finally was able to expell everything that had built up for like over a weeks time. This stuff really does clean you out, but just be warned that it is unpredictable as to when it decides to really hit.i now take sennekot and eat raisin bran everyday and have had no major problems since.Hope this helps.Marcia

I would give it another day and then see a doctor. Might be a bowel obstruction.
But before that, go out to the grocery store and buy a bag of prunes. Eat a whole bunch of them. Then for dinner, eat something with lots of garlic, like Pesto.
This is guaranteed to get stuff really moving quickly. It might give you some loose stool, but you will have a bowel movement for sure.

Thanks for all of your help...I am still having problems. I did try the mag citrate and it went right through me. It all ended up coming out, but nothing else. Over the past few days I have had x-rays, a sonogram, and a CT scan today. Nothing shows up on any of these tests. I am going to have to go to a gastro doctor sometime this week. I am just so confused by all of this. Any other help or advice on what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated!

I've had problems with having a BM for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I've gone for over a week and have become very uncomfortable. I used to try taking laxatives and stool softeners and you name it. What ended up working for me when I started to feel like I"ve gone too long without a BM I get up in the morning and drink a couple cups of orange juice and eat fruit like apples or oranges. The acid that starts to be created works wonders and I still use that tactic now. I guess it all depends on how your body reacts to different things, the over counter products just haven't worked for me. Just an idea

Woud recommend your getting in touch with a physician ..... you may have some sort of blockage. Are you vomitting or nauseas at all? This is not normal & I would definitely place a call to your physician to see what he has to say.....Goody

I did call the doctor...as I wrote earlier in this post, I have had a sonogram, xrays, and a CT scan. They still don't really know what caused it, and I am starting to get better slowly. He thinks it may have been an ulcer in my intestines and gave me some medicine to help with that.
