Hello. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am 42/F and I was diagnosed as being bipolar about 1 1/2 weeks ago. About 1 1/2 months ago I started seeing a psychiatrist for depression. I had previously been diagnosed with ADD. I took Ritalin for about a year but had to stop because it caused sever headaches. The psych. started me out on Budeperon (generic Wellbutrin) 2x per day. I did not really notice a difference after 1 1/2 months. (Maybe a little bit more able to stay on task, but not much) Still could not get out of bed, still would lose my temper at the drop of a hat, still had racing thoughts and racing speech, and still felt like I had no joy in my life even though I have 2 wonderful children. When I went to the psych last week she thought it sounded as if I was bipolar. ( I was only in her office 15 minutes) She started me on Depakote 500 mg for 2 weeks then increasing to 100mg after that. She also kept me on the Budeperon. I don't think I notice a difference yet. A little more able to stay on task, but really not motivated to start, can stay in bed all day and sleep, or be up until 5am with no sleep, still anger easily, still racing thoughts, etc. I realize that it might take a while to be effective, but boy is it hard waiting. I know almost nothing about being bipolar. I am hoping to gain some insight on this board.
Looking forward to getting to know you.

I was just recently diagnose as BI also and was on Depakote 1000mg and several other things. My wife and father noticed I snapped adn was more angry than before I went on it. I also was vomitting on a daily basis from what I thoght was the depakote. The psyc didnt and keep me on it. Well I took myself off all drugs and atleast am not up all night vomitting. Day 5 was real hard and I know I need something just not sure what it is. Im trying to survive until I see the pysc again next week. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the welcome! Wow, silver bullet, taking yourself off of everything is really hard. I was on Effexor for about a week and hated it, so I stopped cold turkey. It was awful. Found out later that Effexor has the worst withdrawal symptoms ever. I was flu-like sick for 2 weeks. I hope you are not suffering and find something that works. Are you not bipolar?

I did ok for almost 5 days with no meds and then couldnt handle the down side. Im slowing starting with seroquel and depakote. Im up to 400mg seroquel and 1000mg depakote so far. Ive talked to alot off people and they say trial and error so why not do it yourself? For awhile on the depakote I was vomitting ever night because the doctor said take it at bedtime. Well after research it says I should take it with food. So im taking them in the morning/afternoon when I eat something. So far so good.
