My father is 76 years old and he was rushed to the emergency room 4 days ago. The right side of his brain was hemoraging. He is in ICU now. The first two nights that he was in the hospital, he was very responsive. All his motor skills were working very well. He is getting worse!!!!!! He stopped responding by squeezing a hand or following his eyes and watching you. He is not opening his eyes now. The cat scans look the same now, as they did the first night he was taken to the emergency room.
Does a stroke victim get worse, then get better? His vital signs are all good. Although, the nuero surgeon and the nurses, say that he gets "aggitated" and his blood pressure goes up high (example: 210/115 with a pulse of 120). It climbs rapidly, he sweats, and the hospital staff gives him diprivan 1% to get his blood pressure down. He is on a venilator and cant speak.
Can someone please tell me why it seems as if he is less responsive, and not getting better? Why isnt he responding now, like he was the first 2 nights he was in the hospital? Is it common for stroke victims to become less responsive over time? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
Anyone that can tell me ANYTHING will be greatly appreciated. Please help me to understand this.
