I used to be a healthy 27 yrold when i was diagnosed with oil gland disfuntion in my eyes. I produce thick mucos instead of the healthy water oil. My eyes are always hurting and they feel dry and gritty. Does anyone know what makes this go away. I have had it for 6 months now.
My vision has also blurred alot since i got this. The dr told me its like trying to see threw a oil slick.

...improve the function of the gland over time through the common treatments out there. You have a better chance of a full recovery the sooner you start and by staying committed to a daily regimen. It can take a long time to get over this, possibly over a year.
What did your doctor say was the cause of the problem? How did your oil gland stop working correctly?

The common treatments are preservative free artificial tear drops such as Bion tears and Thera Tears, taking supplements such as Thera Tears Nutrition and Flax seed oil to improve the quality of the oil in your glands, and most importantly, using warm compresses at least 2 -3 times a day for a few minutes at a time. You also may want to try very gently massaging your upper eyelids to get some of the oils flowing. See an ophthalmologist before you start any treatments. If your oil glands are very inflamed, you might need an anti-inflammatory drop for a little while.

How warm should the warm compresses be? When i do it i like to get the water a little hot so it last for a while on the towel.

I just wanted to ask, for those who might have experienced it, if sometimes by doing treatment (warm compresses, etc), the symptoms for mgd may worsen at first?
thanks! take care everyone!

Yeah they do but you have to keep at it. I recommend 3 times a day. After about a week you will see a big improvement.
