Just curious, on average, how long you use a tube of mascara before discarding it?

How do you know when it's done; is it when it's simply gone, or does it stop being usable (cakes, etc) after a certain amount of time?

I always try to replace my mascara at least every 3 months - but if it starts to dry out too much, then I replace it sooner. Most of the time, it lasts the entire 3 months.
