View Full Version : Pricing on Long acting Morphines...

Well, I've come to the conclusion that there is no way I'll be able to afford Kadian, be it twice or even once a day (unless Pati. Asis. Pro.), but I'm not taking chances to be dissaproved. Now, I believe the only reason I'm on Kadian for these 2 weeks I am...is because of a free new patient voucher from Alpharma. In the office I did remember my Dr. saying Oramorph SR to her assistant towards me, but then remembering the Kadian vouchers, so I assume that's what I'll be on when I go back on the 18th.
Question is...Out of all the LA morphines, which brand is the cheapest, but at the same time not compromizing quality. ALSO...which pharmacy might be cheaper. I know you can look @ Wallgreens Rx prices online which is convienent, but I vough never to go there again (JERKS really). I did take Shorlines advice once and went to sams, which the price diff was nearly 1/2. At Wallgreens I'd pay $17-20 for 40 5mg percocet. At Sams club (which I'm not a member, but it doesn't matter for the pharmacy) I paid only $9 dollars. But I've no way of knowing their prices, they don't talk over the phone about Narcs, so they say. But if anyone might know, that's greatly helping me.

btw-doing exercises as told along w/ the ESI and medication, I truly have been feeling better vs. when I was just taking percocet. I wish I was rich, because Kadian seems to be so smooth, I forget I'm on it-so to speak. I don't feel that BUZZ from the short acting opiates. Just feel pain level is down and it makes the day more bright. Very promising!

Hey James,

I gave you what info I could about pricing on your other post, but as far as price goes, methadone is dirt cheap compared to LA Morphine - even generic.

Yeah, Methadone is dirt cheap. My mom has been on it for years and she's saved a pretty penny in comparison to how much meds she would need from say oxycodone ER. In fact, she told me to mention to Dr. about switching, because it's in my best interest to stay finacially up to par, or else I'll be pawning my things just for medication. Which wouldn't be fun. But honestly...$150.00 a month isn't too too terrible. It's not a joyride, but it certianly is worth a medicine that works, like Kadian.
All in all, I'm hopeing SAMS' CLUB Pharmacy carrys the morphines, because they ARE dirt cheap, and I mind as well go threre from now on.

-post some prices when I go back to appt around the 18th.

(oh , you know what i was wondering? I wonder if when I went for my ESI on the 4th, if she shot my up w/ Steroid...or...Saline, because aren't 2 weeks apart between shots, just to soon for a steroid? (I thought I read that).

Sorry to go off in another direction, i know money is very large issue for all of us. BUT, Methadone, My PD has suggested it many times, but i have read up on it, and it is very hard to ween off of it, i have heard it takes aboout six months to get off of it and to feel normal again. ( REMINDER___just what i have heard, i am sure Shore-, can give you some very good info on it), and i have also heard it is a mirical drug for some people. If you are going to be on Opiates for the rest of your life, i guess it doesn't matter about weaning off of it.

Questions:
What is your diagnosis, what happened to you and what are your symtoms?
Why are you going on to a LA, when Percs are working just fine for you? Is it because you are experiencing the ups-and-downs from the short acting, or is the tylenol an issue?

Again, sorry for going off the issue.

I hope everything works out for you (and everyone here).
Much love and respect to all for everything we do.

Pikkaso, Yeah...I know all aobut methadone. My moms been on it for years and years for pain, It's the one med. that gave my mother BACK to me, so to speak. I'm totally for it, but not sure if it's for me just yet.
Backgroud: I was just sent to pain managment by my surgeon in hopes to treat my issues w/out surgery. I have protrustion of L5-S1 and it's pressing out into my Sciatic Nerve root. This new PM Dr. says it's a BAD looking herniation. But she'd rather have me on long acting drugs vs. short acting, because they get too addicting having to take them so often, and she says chronic pain NEEDS long acting medicine anyhow. So she prescribed LA morphines...currently Kadian 50mg. Along w/ epideral shots and some @ home physical therapy, she's big on pool exercises, but I don't quite have that access yet. And the percs did work, but they didn't last long, thus far the Kadian is providing MUCH MUCH better long term relief, though the pain creeps back here and there, esp. after 12-14 hrs.

Libra-
I am happy that it helped your mother out so much. I am glad to here that the Kadian is working for you. Do you have any other PM docs in your area, maybe they would use BT meds. I'm sorry i couldn't help you in my posts. Your pain sounds very bad for you, i am glad you could get the Kadian.

I hope you have happy thoughts, and beautiful dreams. (sleep is the best pain med I have ever found, like you all know, when we can get it.)
