:o I went off to work today, and my pain levels were so bad that I had to get my hubby to come and pick me up. I'm so frustrated. Nothing is working. The pain meds are not helping much....for a little while they do...and even though I'm taking Ambien, Elavil, and Valium for sleep, I still wake up every hour in terrible pain.....
I'm frustrated....scared.....and EXHAUSTED. I DO have an appt. with a NS on WED. so crazy as it sounds, I'm looking forward to that. I having terrible spasms, 24/7 pain in my thigh/hamstring/buttock, and now I've started tingling around my pubic area....IS THAT NORMAL??? I'm also tingling around my ankle....
Today is 11 weeks of 24/7 pain....maybe I'm just frustrated.....and sad...I don't know...But I am scared....I've not had any pain in the L-5 area, but starting to get spasms there too.....
Guess I just needed to RANT for a while. I'll see the NS on Wed and see what he has to say...and then PM on 11/22....they will work together on my case.....I just want to throw away all my meds, and go back to who I was before this started....
OK, NOW I'M CRYING....so, I'll stop....
Just wish me luck on Wed. I'm really scared!
Thanks.

I and everyone on the board wish you only the best on wednesday and therafter. You didn't mention what tests or procedures you have had if any. If not, no reason to be scared. Your not even sure what it is. Sounds like a typical disk related problem and a nerve is being impinged. What meds for pain are you on? maybe there are better ones which could bring the levels down. Rest easy and just know your just starting to investigate a problem. Then once you find the cause, you can do whatever you need to help alleviate it. Be patient, it'll all work out in the end :)

Don't be afraid and don't just listen to one person. Have your doc give you a better pain pill (oxycontin20mg) and get your head back in the game. Then when your your calm make your medical decision. I went to 7 people before I jumped in. Head up and your mind right.

Thanks to khoff and Idiopathic for responding. I have had the MRI that confirms the L-5 rupture. Have done Vax-d for 4 weeks, with minimal results, and I don't know if I'm becomming tolerant to the Perocet 10/325 or if my symptoms are worsening....Is it possible in 4 weeks to build a tolerance to the Percocet 10/325??? I take it every 6 hours. But it's barely helping any more....I have new pain though, Pubic area tingles, ankle tingles and throbs, and the thigh/buttock area is 24/7 charlie horse on steroids, never goes away....that's not new, just the ankle and pubic area tingling....that's what's new...Oh and my tailbone feels like it's broken, but I know it's not, it just feels that way....
Up until now, I've had no pain in my back at all, but am starting to get spasms.....So, like I said, I don't know if my symptoms are getting worse, or I'm becoming tolerant to the meds....and that (either scenario) scares me....
But thanks for listening to me.! I only have two more days before I see the NS, so, I'll keep plugging along....as best I can...
Take care.

Have you looked into MYOTHERAPY for pain relief?

Can you give me a little info about what it is so I know what to discuss with the doctor when I go in there to see him. I would be most appreciated. I'm fairly new to all of this, and to these boards, so I'm not familiar with much of the "lingo"...sorry. And explanation would be most appreciated.
You're a dream! Thanks.

Myotherapy was first popularized by Bonnie Prudden in the 1980ties & is a form of massage therapy for pain relief that focuses only on the deep pressure on "trigger points" in the muscles to relieve pain. It is NOT an all-over, feel-good massage. I don't know if the word "Myotherapy" has been (or even could be) trade-marked by her, but there are Bonnie Prudden-certified myotherapists in most areas of the US...I'm not sure about other countries. I'm currently trying to talk my wife's kid sister (age 55!), who lives in Michigan & suffers from myriad body pain, to give this system a try. A statement from a physician that it's OK would be necessary. I have no idea of the per-visit cost, but it's probably on par with other things such as physical therapy, accupuncture, chiropractic, etc.
Actually, if anyone here has had any experience with this protocol, either personally or via hearsay, I'd be interested in hearing about it. Although I'm at a rather advanced age, I'm still 100% chronic pain-free, so I have no ability nor reason to personally check Myotherapy out myself.

undefinedundefined[COLOR=Magenta] Dear bsigns,
I know how you are filling about being scared. I've been going threw so much since I was 20yrs Old I am now 45. At Age 26 I was diagnosised with Sudo Tumor Ceibr. (Water on the brain) It's found in over weight back women, The funny thing it that I'm a "at the time"92 pd white woman. So after I belive 50 some spinal's I had finally found a Nero in Ohio. After they had put the shunt in I still had pain so he had me on Loratab 5.And of course the millagram went higher and higher. About 7 yrs ago I had been getting pain in my back. I was tired all the time, Someday's my leg's on one side to another, The back of my neck.?Pain that you are describing? It had a mined of it's own. Where it was going to hit, and how bad. After a couple of doctor's said that it was all in my head. I no that it was'nt in my head I know that I was filling pain ,Pain that had made me sick, The only thing that I could do was go to the E.R. to where I almost knew the employee's by there first name. One of the Doctor's there (E.R.) Told me that he was reading on a disease that has'nt been recognized just recently called Fibromialga which is a musle disease. How the Doc described it to me was it's very painful could go to any part of your body one day it could be your leggs, next day could be upper back. Neck I guess where ever you have mussels. I'm sorry to say that there is'nt a cure yet for this disease, The pain can only be made comfertable with medication. It's basically like M.S. it's.F.M.S. My doctor had said @ one time you won't die from this but sometime's you wish you would. If I where you I would look it up on the web. When you read you'll no if it pertaines to you. Good Luck and keep going find out what's going on. You know, I talk to my doctor as if I was talking to my best friend. Aso tell them that you are scared to death anyone would be, the fear of the unknown. [ removed ] I've been there. Oh one more thing but your faith into GOD he'll get you threw. Good Luck  Rahnie P.S. I get Uppadruls one month the following month I get trigger Point injection's. [ removed ]

becky,
i doubt you have built up a tolerance that quickly.regarding the spasms and hamstring/butocks i can assure you that if you get in the habit of stretching daily the tightness and spasms will ease off.you can do all the stretches while l
ying on your back(my kinda workout).
lying down, while i know it hurts less when you rest only causes those muscles to to atrophy and tighten up even more.
also, taking meds every 6 hrs, although thats what the doc rx'd,never worked for me.
short acting meds offer relief for about 4 hrs.it is much easier to keep pain levels down than try to bring them down.speak with your dr about switching to 4 hour intervals.
even if you step down to 7.5mg every 4 hrs, total of 6 a day you very well may have an easier time than 10mg @6hr intervals 4per day.if thats the case your dr would only be increasing your total daily dose by 10% but w/percs you really should not take that much tylenol.
hope you feel better soon,scotty

Hi Becky.....
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time dealing with your pain. Has your dr. prescribed anything for neuropathy? Two of the meds used for this are Neurontin and Topamax. These are used for the nerve pain and the numbness/tingling you are experiencing in your legs/ankles. At least that is how it was explained to me when I started adding it to my daily meds. I am using the Neurontin. It may be something to talk to your dr about if you aren't currently prescribed anything like this. I hope you feel better soon. I can so relate to how you are feeling. There are times when I can't seem to take the pain any longer. But I know there isn't any alternative. I'm just thankful to be under the supervision of a good Physiatrist who knows and believes in Pain Mgmt. Take care and please keep posting on your progress.
