View Full Version : Concerta not working, can't take Strattera... what can I do?

I've been using 36 mg Concerta for a few months now (sometimes I double up tablets). I don't take it weekends. I tried Strattera but had bad side effects (blocked urine -- weird).

I'm still having major adult ADD problems during the week on Concerta. Are there other medications I should try? Is it hopeless? Other therapies?

I also tried concerta. My understanding is that it "delivers" in the bowel. I have recurring IBS so some days I know it was evacuated before it even had a chance.

I now take ritalin, the short acting, the generic. I take it before eating in the a.m., then 2 more times during the day 4 hours a part. I prefer it for several reasons. First, it delivers in the stomach which for me means I don't run the risk of losing it before it has a chance to work. Another thing I like about it is that it is faster acting than the concerta. And yet another, if I am overly tired and want to go to bed early, I skip the 4pm dose and can hit the hay early. On the time release meds, I would find myself waiting out the drug to settle down to sleep. It might work for you.

There are other medications out there. Talk to your doctor. He might want you to give Adderall a try.

PS. I wouldn't "double up" on pills without your doc's okay.
