This is wierd. I'm finally going to the dr. today for this. My big toe is extrememly inflamed. The thing is my nail seems fine, I don't see the corner of it. I've tried lifing it slightly and I don't. But I think I do have an infection because it has pus coming out. It's my left foot on the big toe. The side where it touches your second toe. It's seems to me it's in the skin next to my nail. I don't know how this happened. It's killing me. I just dread going in..........you know how your in pain and knowing someone is going to be touching your toe!! I've been taking Advil for the pain and inflammation. I've been soaking it in warm water and keeping it as clean as possible. I just don't understand what it is! undefined

def sounds like an ingrown nail. I had four but never got the puss. I had all four borders removed in March, and now they are growing normal. Of course, they both ripped to the quick b/c the nail was dead on the sides from the procedure, so now they hurt all over again from a different problem. BUT, that is one side effect. I hope your dr visit went well. Did you go to a pediatrist???

I went to my doctor today, he prescribed Augmentin and referred me to a podiatrist. I have to wait til next Tuesday now!! But that's better than two weeks-which was at a different office. So, in the mean time I have to take the antibiotic and soak it in Epsom salt twice daily. So, gotta wait now.I can't believe how bad it hurts. Will update next week. My dr. said he couldn't tell if it was an ingrown nail or not. So, he's leaving it up to the foot dr.

well I am glad you are going to see a specialist. If you do have it or any others removed, don't worry. Though painful at times, it is worth it. You can let me know and if you have any worries or questions that you don't discuss w/your doc, I'd be happy to discuss them with you. Good luck!

I went to a podiatrist today. Basically he had to cut my nail. Just a small part. Let me tell you how nervous I was. He told me exactly what he was going to do, and gave me a shot to numb my toe and I got all hot and sweaty and kind of shaky!!! That shot hurt like hell! OMG! But I didn't feel a thing! Thank god! I totally felt like I was going to pass out and he looked at me and asked me if I was okay, and I said it was kind of warm and he had the girl get me some water. Then he started to talk to me..small talk. I think he could tell I was really nervous! I haven't had any pain...just a tad. But I will take off the bandage in the morning and take some asprin. He was so nice. He asked if i wanted to see the nail and i was like ok. It was a small part. It was kind of funny because when he had given me the shot and was looking in the drawer for some stuff he needed and I was just sitting there looking the other way so i wouldn't look at my toe and then i glanced at it and it was numb and just a little blood. I'm such a freak! I've had small surgeries in the past like having my wisdom teeth pulled and had my tonsils out but of course I was out when they did those. And I was awake when he did this and I couldn't beleive how nervous I was. I couldn't look when he did it. I was a complete wreck! Thank god it's over!!! :)

I had to have a valium before my procedure and like I said he did all four sides (two sides, both toes). I did watch from the middle to the end-kinda like it was someone else's foot :)
Hope it is going well!

I had mine done this morning. You're certainly right about the injection. I had one in each side of my toe. They were so painful I nearly jumped up and ran off after the first one! But they do work incredibly well to numb it. I couldn't look while he was doing it, but I did see my toe all bound up before he started cutting. It was a really weird yellowish colour, because the circulation had been cut off, and there was a big streak of blood running down, that I couldn't feel at all.
It's bandaged up now. It doesn't hurt but it feels a bit strange. It can't be numb anymore, though. I think it's just because it's bandaged.
