This isn't a "Heart Disorder" (I hope not), but just a heart-related question. I got a new watch that monitors your HR and so I've been trying different things and seeing how my heart responds. The thing I am worried about is when I walk, my HR is between 90 and 105. Is that too high for just a comfortable pace walk? My resting HR is around 60, but when I'm seated and not completely relaxed it's around 70-80. I am 17 years old 5'7" 135 lbs and I haven't done much exercising for years.
Thanks :)

That doesn't sound bad considering you don't exercise much. I walk at a 4mph clip and my heart rate is about 100-105. You sound like you are right in the normal range.

You should not be worried at all. 90-105 is perfectly normal when walking. When I had a stress test done recently, they made me walk and run until my heart rate was 180bpm.

Your muscles are contracting when you walk, therefore they need more oxygen therefore your heart beats faster. You shouldn't have palpitations (awarness of or strong pounding of the heart). How high is your heartrate when you exercise hard, or jog for a while? I am am 17 also, and i was having high pulse rates after doing just minor activities, like walking up the stairs. I didn't understand, as i weight lifted weights almost 4-5 times a week. I went to my doctor and he told me i had sinus tachycardia, this condition is not life-threatening or dangerous, (there is nothing wrong with my heart at all) but somthing else is causing the sinus tachycardia. I have a good bit of knowledge about this topic so feel free to ask any other questions. The normal range for a resting heart rate is 40-90 bpm. For the average U]]Not Overweight[/U] person would probally be, 60-80.
hope it helps!

Thanks for the replies :D
MillerTime72987,
Hmmm... well, I heard a "tachycardia" is a resting HR of >100 BPM. I certainly don't have that, but when I just walk around my HR is around there, but after I sit it drops to 60-80.
As far as my HR during very intense exercise, I'm not sure... I never push that far, but I do ride a lifecycle and I keep my heart rate at around 160-175.
I don't have palpitations while walking (though I can feel my heart beating in my chest during farily intense exercise (usually pretty slight) or when I quickly do a bout of exercise like bolting up the stairs after being seated for hours). Ninety-eight percent of the time I don't know my heart is beating, but there are those times when in certain positions resting quitely I can.

A resting rate of 60 indicates you are probably in good physical shape. One way to test your fitness and its improvement is to time how long your heart rate takes to return to a certain level (say 70) from a higher level (say 140). The shorter the interval, the better your recovery and therefore your general cardiac fitness.Does your Doctor know you are pushing yourself to a rate of 175 bpm ? He should I think.
