View Full Version : Loop diuretics and salt restriction?

In another thread, there was a recommendation not to restict salt when taking thiazide diuretics.

What about loop diuretics such as furosemide (Lasix)? Should I be restricting salt when taking this diuretic? My doctor told me to.

Any thoughts, anyone? If you are on loop diuretics, should you also be restricting salt?

Mathmom, i just did a search and lasix is a systamic direutic which also works on the kidney to produce urine. With this in mind i would say you should not restrict salt. if i find my Diabetes Interviewer mag. i will look up more info for you, or do a search.

I read the same post you're referring to that said ppl on thiazides should not restrict salt. However, my dr. and my endo told me to restrict salt. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Math, i looked up lasix and it does deplete sodium from the kidneys.
