Compared to a docs office are they really that much different????? I am consistently getting readings averaging 116/66 at CVS, Eckerds, Walgreens+++. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. At the docs. office it will always be higher. The doc. said that if I am getting so many readings that are good at different locations, then they are pretty accurate. After 156/86 at the doc. it was 122/76, 20 minutes later. Everyone that I ask at CVS say that it is pretty consistent with the reading that they get at the doc.

my doc loaned me a portable monitor for a while, i then went to walmart & bought one, they are by the pharmacy, omron model hem-711, its accurate, has the cuff that goes on your arm with a hose that runs to the machine, i think it was around $79

dont get one that goes on your wrist, none of them work right

Thanks for the input. My G/F thinks that I take it too much (15 times a month) right now. I usually take it at a CVS, Eckerds, Publix+ & wind up with very similiar readings. At the docs. office it is always elevated. If I bought a monitor, I would take it way too often. The doc. said that at a CVS that they are pretty accurate & if I took it at several different locations with the same results, then it should be accurate as well. I think that I will cut down the # of times that I take it. It gets to be too much of an obsessive type of thing after 20 months of doing it.

I would think you'd want a home unit not so much for the accuracy, but the convenience. Also, those store units are so slow.

I highly recommend the ReliOn HEM-780REL available at Walmart for <$60. It has date/time, 90 memories and takes readings in under 30 seconds.

The readings that I am getting from CVS & other pharmacies are consistent & accurate. I have taken 20 months worth of readings. If I had a home monitor it would drive me insane. I am going to start taking my B/P less. It gets to be an obsession after a while....

I used the drug store ones at different locations too and I get low readings. Most of the time they are 119/78. At the doc's last Wed. it was 128/98. It goes up and down quite consistently. I don't have a grasp of what my true reading is. I do have a home monitor "LifeSource UA-787 Digital BP Monitor". I take it way too many times. My husband says my BP goes up every time I see a high reading then I take it over and over from then on. (Possibly making it go higher from worrying!)

So having a home monitor at home has its advantages and disadvantages. I think it leans more towards the advantages.

I will stick with CVS, Eckerds, Walgreens+. I'm going to cut down my measurements. It's enough. I know that it is anywhere from 108-130 over 62-80 depending on the day. If I bought a digital monitor & etc. it would drive my g/f up the wall & I would measure it way too much. Enough is enough.
